So, the Boca Chik'n patties are vegan!?!!! GREAT! I just bought some for this week cause I wanted "chicken" patties, and I prefer to eat vegan meatless products, even tho I'm a l/o veg. I rarely ever consume eggs or cow milk anyway.

Great news! :D

I am a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian and when I go to BK I get the Veggie Burger (warmed up in the microwave) and I bring my own bag of potato chips . The BK Veggie Burger is very tasty, and I know it does not pick up any "meat residue" when cooked/warmed in the microwave.

I really like BK's veggie burger. I even ordered it before I went vegetarian. It's got big chunks of mushrooms and stuff that you can see.

This is an old thread, but to comment on the bumped post, it's now standard practice for all the BK Veggie's to be microwaved. You used to have to ask.

some are. always check first! It's really wierd. Whenever I go to whole foods, the boca chik'n patties they have, have egg. But at another grocer, the boca chik'n patties are vegan. Its really wierd. The packaging is nearly idendical except for a tiny tiny tiny "vegan" on the side of the package.

So just check every time.

^^^ I noticed this, too. That's why I was so surprised (and happy) to find one of the packages with the vegan label on it!

Speaking of fake chicken, I just tried the morningstar farms buffalo wings for the first time yesterday. I don't know if they're vegan (I'm not that vigilent in my label ready) but they're AWESOME! It took all my will power to not eat the whole box in one sitting.

which begs the question. If they can and do make a vegan version, and not advertise it as such (large lettering on front of the packaging) why don't they just only make the vegan kind. What purpose does the little egg serve besides frustrating vegans?

That is really weird because it says VEGAN really big on the front of the regular boca patty box.

Egg whites don't even taste like anything.

Boca recently switched to the vegan formula. Some stores may still be using up their stock of the non-vegan formula. But the new ones are all vegan. http://www.bocaburger.com/product_meatless/4.html

ETA: Oh I see what the problem is... the "Non-GMO Formula" is still ovo-vegetarian. It's only the regular products that are now vegan. So the brown boxes that say "Natural Ingredients" are not vegan.

Egg whites are used in commercial food production as a cheap and effective binder. It holds the product together and keeps it from falling apart when cooked. There are plenty of other binders but many companies use egg whites because they are cheap and effective while the other binders would mean re-engineering their product.

I work in a gym/swimming pool cafe bar, and although I can have anything free, I don't touch any of it. I cook that food, I see how foul it all is, I don't care if it's free :spew: Then again, I get to use all the other facilities free, so I'm still getting something out of it
