I live in Indiana, but lately it's been REALLY hot and humid. As I am typing this, it is 94 degrees outside, at 4:00, and it's still getting hotter. It only drops down to about 80 degrees at night. I'm normally a fairly active person; I walk my dog a lot and do some pretty vigourous horseback stuff (jumping, barrels, etc...), but it's just been too hot and muggy lately to do anything. I'm getting really fidgety trying to sit still all the time, and I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for exercises that I could do indoors. I can't afford a gym membership, so this is my last option. please help!

wow, thats tuff when you wanna exercise and cannot very well do it due to uncomfortable humidity...
I like side leg raises as if kicking but in more steady motion.
I like the splits of course/stretching to be supple etc, (ever trying to achieve the splits, lol...I must persist with ith everyday or else not, haha).
A cool home devisable execise of course is working triceps that can be well exercised by seating only you hands on a bench and naturally lowering (and raising) your body to (and from) the floor with hands (or palms) remaining firm so that elbows and triceps experience a 90 degree bend until your butt is almost sat on the floor, legs out straight, back also straight (as possible).
I just use a small bench (almost knee height) for this exercise. However if your body droops too far OR have ungainly body(?) ...either way if you feel your shoulders stretch and having to strain too much, you are using too high a bench (if so maybe use cushion for your butt if prefered instead of trying to alter bench height) for comfortable raise of yourself back into straight arm tricep position at the hilt of the movement.
Very simple though, which is its beauty.... Just do whatever feels comfortable and without making the drop too acute (if so your bench is too high (or the floor too low ).
Anyway, simple, and I like exercising triceps this way, but can be hard on your wrists and elbows til you get strong enough to be use to it. :) What else I don't know to mention without eqipment, but mainly I use my gym for push downs of the tricep for other most common form of tricep exericse. :)
Stay cool and take it slow.

Thanks a lot! I can do the splits with my left leg front, almost with my right leg, and not at all in the middle. Thanks for the advise! I wish someone around here had a pool I could use...

Go to the library (or a video store) and check out a few exercise videos. It is a fun and free (or cheap) way to try all kinds of workouts. Taebo, pilates, yoga, buns of steel whatever looks good give it a try. I just got a 'country line dancing' video recently and had a blast one afternoon learning some goofy country moves.
I hear ya about working out indoors - I am in Texas and it will be sweltering here for months!!
Hope things cool off for you soon!

Consider buying The Underground Guide to Warrior Fitness. It's full of bodyweight exercises you can do in your living room, no equipment required. Great resource.

berrykat beat me to the website. :)
I lift weights regularly... work out a lot.
But the first time I tried one of those Underground routines, I was so sore I couldn't work out for 3 days after. Kick my a$$... and it takes a lot to do that anymore.

try doing chores. It's a win-win situation. You get your exercise and your house gets cleaned. I push the vacuum, jog up and down the stairs, put weights(the ones bought at fitness stores on my feet while walking around the house all day. Try yoga or work on your flexibility by stretching. Be creative!
P.S. I live in Texas also and I know the feeling only too well-today it's 104!

pushups are excellent.. if u get too good at them and can do a lot, try doing them super slow and only little portions of them at a time, etc.. stretching/simple yoga stuff.. hand-stand pushups on the wall are fun, and its a good way to get ur bloodflow jumpstarted. makeshift indo boards/balance boards are sweet as well. just nab a piece of wood and a 4" or bigger pvc pipe! ud be suprised how quickly u can work up a sweat on them suckers.

Jumping rope is good for cardiovascular stuff. I do 200 jumps at a time whenever I see the jumprope (it's conveniently located in the living room so as to inspire me to use it more often).
Lifting weights is also good - and all you need is a couple of adjustable dumbbells.

Power yoga all the way. You can get all the info and how to online even if you don't feel like going out to a book store or library.

Two words, baby.................TAE BO !!!! Those tapes are great, seriously.
I live in South Florida and it's hot as hell most of the time. When I can't run I swim or do Tae Bo. It's fun times!!!
