not sure where this topic belongs ... and maybe this is a stupid question, but ...

i'm still kinda new to cruelty-free shopping and need some advice. i live in a small town btw with only one major department store -- Wal-Mart -- ugh! seems like all the toilet paper and similar paper type products they carry are made by the same three companies, Kimberly-Clarke, Scott, and Georgia-Pacific, and from what i've been reading ALL of these companies test on animals (dyes and perfumes i would presume). is this an issue for you guys? what brands should i look for? and before anyone suggests it, i really can't see myself buying toilet paper online ... we also have a Kroger and a Walgreens here if that helps.

It's not stupid, it's actually a very good question. I, personally, have no idea what to tell you. Maybe the other 40 are like me (and you) and just don't know, either. :)

Have you tried typing "cruelty-free toilet paper" in google, or "enviromentally friendly toilet paper"?

thanks for the reply! :)

yeah, i've searched. and like most of my "cruelty-free" searches i get plenty of links to buy products online (which btw is super fine and great for some things, but toilet paper?!) but nothing like a list of "safe" brands i might could find at the corner store. i guess there just isn't such a list, eh?! there should be!! i may have to start one! so ummm, yeah ... toilet paper ... pretty much the only product i'm still having trouble finding a "friendly" alternative for ... any/all suggestions welcome and appreciated. now, later, whenever. thanks! :)

Your Kroger, at least, may well carry Seventh Generation tp, either the unbleached, or the stuff that's bleached with H2O2 instead of something nastier. I don't know if they do animal testing, admittedly. Why not buy online? I've seen the 7G tp sold in cases of 64 or 128 online for a reasonable cost.

anthony, wouldn't shipping costs for toilet paper be a little obnoxious?

It's all relative, I guess, and when you think about it, the stuff doesn't weigh much. 96 rolls of 7G 2-ply are 70.95 at www.gaiam.com, plus 11.95 shipping. Less than a buck a roll. I honestly don't know what I've been paying retail, but I suspect it's more per-roll.

Grimy, if you really want some cruelty free TP, and your stores don't have it...here ya go.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006ISE2/qid=1119834993/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xglna/102-1524229-4757725?v=glance&s=hpc&n=507846

You can buy 7th generation brand TP for 2.99 per four pack. Oh, and you can buy more cruelty free stuff there too. Cleaners, soaps, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc.

Kroger owns the Fred Meyer stores, and the FM's here have a 'Natural Selections' section or something like that, that has some of the 7G products.
