Hope you have a great time! I am sure your daughter and wife will really enjoy the experience.
For those who didn't get the email from FS, The Hoedown is August 6 and 7, 2005. You can bring your tent and camp right on the grounds. You can go the the website for the schedule of events. This is always a great time!

My husband and I will be there in two weeks. :) But we don't get to stay on the farm because they were all booked up.

Well we are back from the trip and we had a wonderful time. The Sanctuary is so peaceful and serene and not just because it is quiet but because when you are there you know that it is a place where animals are allowed to live their lives in peace and happiness and that these are animals that were rescued from horrific situations.
It is funny because before I went a co-worker told me to watch out for the pigs because from his experience they are likely to bite off a finger from sheer meanness. But of course the pigs here are so friendly and love people (and belly rubs) because they know they are in no danger from people.
The cows were friendly and I got to meet Snickers (who people might know from the Peaceable Kingdom DVD). My decision to become vegetarian 5 months ago was really solidified by visiting FS. Now I want to go the full step and become a vegan. I have already stopped drinking milk but cheese is the toughie (damn you pizza!).
The only thing I didn't like was that the two tours I went on were quite rushed. The guide kept rushing us along because we were running late.
They have a great gift shop as well and they sell the most delicious vegan cookies. I ended up spending quite a bit of cash but I was happy too spend it at a worthy place.
As for the wife; good news and bad news. She said she is going to give up red meat in a week (she has to finish the steaks in the fridge) and then give up chicken in a month and then try to go veg. The bad news was she had a whopper on the way home!! I was disgusted and we had a bit of a tiff about it. I thought it was very disrespectful to eat a whopper after visiting the Farm Sanctuary.
Overall, great time and I recommend to everyone that you visit!

Hi, glad you had a good time. Also glad to hear you have been swayed towards veganism! It was the book "The Pig who sang to the moon" that did it for me. :)
How much access were you given to the animals? We're going to be there on July 7 and really want to get the most of it since we're not exactly close to it (like you). And, as I mentioned, we won't be staying on the farm.
Also, how much trouble did you have crossing the border? We're actually going to Toronto first for four days before we go on to New York, so we'll be crossing around Niagara Falls. We've never crossed the border, so we're a little nervous.

Glad you had a good time. I've been out there and I thought the same thing about the tour. Especially since they didn't want you around the larger animals when someone wasn't accompanying you. The cabins are great though and it's very peaceful out there at night. We went in the fall when all the leaves were changing and it was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it. It's not terribly exciting but it's a nice place to get away. They also have a nice state park in town.

thats cool dude, so is your wife a vegetarian? i dont think it will take much, go easy with it and probably less than a year shell follow the same stuff you do now. My past experience, the girls always adopt to it pretty well since most arnt "meatheads" like a lot of guys are, theyre somewhat health concious, so it starts with healthy eating and then they open their eyes fully.
Thats neat you went though, i hope to go sometime.
