View Full Version : Way Too Many Forums

I think there is way too many different forum topics! It's so hard to keep track of all the posts and it seems like not as many people can answer your questions since the forum is so spread out. Any thought of shortening it up? Surely, some of the different topics can be counted as one.. Just a suggestion to make it easier. And is it just me or can you only see one post per page?

Ok I'll tell you and your one post can go.. if you think you can be here for 2 seconds and tell Michael how he should run his forum.
Welcome to the internet, either deal with it.. or go back to daycare.

If it was all big one forum, it'd be harder to navigate. This way there's some order to it.
But, as a suggestion, check out the "New Posts" button. It removes the forum seperators and shows you all posts sorted by their last post time.

Um would you walk into a mall that you'd never been to.. take one look at it.. and then go complain to management that the shops are all layed out wrong and they should change it? Yeah I didnt think so.

Someone could also argue that putting more posts in fewer forums would make it harder to find the topics you're interested in. I know there are quite a few but having the threads seperated by topic makes it easier for people to read topics they're interested in.
What I do is click "view new posts" and then scroll down the list of updated topics, if I see a topic I'm interested in I click the small arrow to the left of the thread title. That'll take me right to the newest posts. Once I'm done reading I hit the back button on my browser and continue on down the list. Seems to work pretty well.
Hello and welcome! Most people get friendly welcomes by saying "Hi!" in the Newbie section, where people say "hi" and get welcomed, rather than by complaining in here. But Hi and welcome anyway!

What he said. VB is a large enough place that it's nice to have some separation of topics. Granted there is some crossover between Veg/Vegan and the Patch, or Health/Physical Fitness, but in general I find the sub topics quite helpful.
I think the way it's layed out works very well. :)
But your best bet is to follow the advice of so many others and hit the "New Posts" button when you get here. Then you only see the recent stuff. You can see the forum it's in on the right hand side, so you can skip the things that don't interest you. Easy enough.

Hey, just because a user is new does not mean that he or she can't have suggestions. I thought the comment was phrased very respectfully, and I see no reason to criticize her for making it. However, as the others have said, many seperate forums make it easier to see certain topics. I don't use the New Posts feature too often, but it is a good way to see current replies. :)

In all fairness it was a little off-putting as a first post. Instead of "hey it's great to be here!" She chose to start off with "Hey this layout sucks. Change it cuz I've been here a minute!"
The site is perfect the way it is. If you want an "easier" format, go to VegSource

No, actually, she said "any thought of shortening it up?" She did not say, "Take me to your leader. I demand forum consolidation...or else." As she said, her post was "just a suggestion," not a demand. She has the right to suggest just as we have the right to reject her suggestions.

To risk going OT, but when you start a new job, the last thing you want to do is show up on the first day and start telling the company what they should be doing. It's one of the best ways to get yourself fired on the first day. Same goes for any organization or club, including the internet.

wow. i can't believe you thought it was appropriate to come in here and tell us to change things. Why not hang out for five minutes or so before you start complaining. This wasn't the best first impression you could have made

I think she's left for good so I'm closing this.
In the future let's try to not be so harsh with the new people.
