Having been raised by a single mother who worked two jobs to be able to afford the payments on a tiny little trailer as well as keep food in my mouth and clothes on my back, I would have to say.......
...wait. Maybe I am trailer trash!
Actually, I consider myself lucky to have been blessed with a mother who would do anything for her children. So I don't care if I'm trailer trash or not. :)

Disagree. Living in a trailer does not make a person trash. Bad trailer parks and having them in places where it's dangerous to have them (tornado zones, etc) gives them a bad reputation.

Are a Nascar fan to the point of posting your favorite cars number on your W-iiiii-te truck.
The riffle on yer gun rack in yer truck points t'ard the drivers head.

I don't think there's anything wrong with living in a trailer.

FYI - living IN a trailer does not make one trash, however the term refers to generally "white trash" who happen to live in trailers.

So, if I've seen Larry the Cable Guy live at a comedy club twice, then..?
But, but, but, I don't even know Jimmy Johnson's #, 48? See, I can't be true trailer trash.

There are plenty of "trash" type creatures that live in houses too.

Very true, you could also use the term "redneck" to be more PC.

i've been in trailers where stuff is stacked to the ceiling in the hallways, and you've got to go to a back bedroom to take a 500 lb patient out so you can get them to a landing zone.
it is true that you get a lower socioeconomic group living in trailers, overall. especially single wides. i don't think that necessarily makes them trash though.

Around here, the lower socioeconomic group that owns mobile homes is in the $50,000+ bracket...you can't get anything else with that income. So, mobile homes are great for young families....though around here they are still expensive. Our mortgage is only $649.00 a month plus an extra $79.00 in insurance, however, our space rent is $735.00 a month plus utilities. So, even though it's alot less expensive than the average mortagage, it's still pricey. The kicker....a two bedroom apartment in my area rents for $1500.00 a month......if it's in Long Beach, we could get one for about $1200.00 a month. I think the average mortgage around here is $2500.00 a month, that's with like 20% down.
To answer the OP's question...no, I don't think trailer living=white trash. I get quite upset about the stereotype personally.

california real estate is out of sight. i was in long beach and los angeles a few months ago. had a blast riding my bicycle from LA to san diego. i love ca :). not that i want to live there though.
in rural florida, you'd have to see some of the trailers people live in. i could tell you stories, but they don't do justice.
and by the way, you'd be astounded on what you can buy for 300k in north florida :).

Someone with a decent job could probably have that paid off in 3-5 years.

I looked into buying a trailer when I was looking for a house, because they are a lot cheaper, but often the lot rent was as much as a house payment. When you added the lot rent and trailer payments together my sister was paying 50% more for her trailer than I was paying for my house which is three times bigger and has a fenced in yard. But she did manage to raise a baby, and take care of two dogs and a cat there for a while until eventually filing bankruptcy and moving out.
... you live in a trailer.

The worst "white trash" i knew did not live in a trailer. They had the teeth missing, the unattractive older women who loved to flash people, the cops were always over when the husband/boy friend (don't really know if they were married) got drunk, and yes, they said things like "You don't know me!".
There are lots of trailers here, some really nice, some that you can't believe people live in. There was one I used to love to drive by, where the people had taken 3 trailers and pushed them together side by side, to make sort of a homemade triple-wide. Very creative! And there was another one where the people had sort of grafted half a trailer onto their house. I always wanted to see what that was like on the inside.
But the worst of the trailers are often rental units. If you can't afford to rent an apartment, you might be able to rent a trailer. As you can imagine, the owners don't do a lot of maintenance.

You might be trailer trash if...
...if you've got four beat-up, rusty vehicles in your driveway and at least one of them has a window made entirely of duct tape.

ummm...in rural mississippi you should see some of the trailers people live in....well...I say people, I mean some members of my extended family. One past trailor that a cousin lived in actually had a hole in the floor where the critters could get in (luckily...or not...my cousin owns shotguns). Oh....AND, this same cousin, once my Grandfather finally passed on to the big trailer park in the sky, inherited the 'ancestral' trailer and land, where he now resides with his family, his 10,000 fishin' boat, and his steroid inhanced pick-up truck.
Um....yup, I have a questionable blood line I'm afraid, though I haven't lived in a trailer myself since the age of three.
B
hell yeah you might, usually if you're trashy and you live in a trailer :D
but there is a lot of trash living in other places

 Omg...
A friend who moved here to Alabama from the midwest (not a lot of trailers there, I guess), describes a common lifestyle here as the 30-30-30 plan. It's when you have a $30,000 truck and a $30,000 boat parked in front of a $30,000 trailer.
(This was recently revised from the 20-20-20 plan, to reflect rising truck & boat prices, and to allow for a nicer trailer)

I don't mind the occasion white trash joke, especially since some members of my family are on the trashy side. Personally, I find my family more "simple folk" then trashy, though. No trailers, but there has been some questionable living areas and...odd behaviour/habits.
But when it comes down to it, it's a sad reflection on anyone that feels they need to be embarassed by a trailer to raise a child. Trailers can be made to look nice. I know they have a stigma, and that's sad, but there is nothing stopping people from going against the grain and making trailers a lovely and happy home to raise a child.
And I'd rather anyday to have a child raised in a trailer w/ a nice, clean yard and good parents, then a child raised in a 500,000 home where the parents don't speak to each other. Or a child being raised in a VW van because her father lost his job and they couldn't afford their apartment anymore.
