Caroline and I booked our honeymoon and ceremony/reception site today!!!!! We're getting married on October 29th, 2005. We've also decided to forgoe flowers to carry/wear. We're getting married in a greenhouse, there's enough living flowers there, plus Caroline doesn't like cut flowers. We're having a vegetarian (vegan?) buffet afterward, and I'll be doing most of the cooking myself. I plan on serving both chilled and hot apple cider (made from my mom's homemade organic apple juice). I haven't really nailed down the rest of the menu, but there will be a lot of orange and red and yellow in the food., I'm thinking carrot or pumpkin (or a mixture) cupcakes iced in fall colours for the cake. I'm SO FREAKING EXCITED! anyone have any awesome ideas for a fall wedding? :bobo: :bobo: :bobo:

First of all, congrats!! My husband and I had a vegetarian wedding too! Its loads of fun and a great opportunity to show your family and friends what a vibrant, healthy and delicious lifestyle it is. :-) We also did a greenhouse style setup, so we didn't have to get much in terms of flowers (we did get some daisies for my hair, the cake and for bouquets ;-) )

First of all, how many guests are you having? You are doing most of the cooking? That sounds pretty overwhelming! Depending on the # of guests, you'll probably be needing to make things that you can prepare the day before and reheat the next day. The pumpkin cupcakes are a great idea for the cake!! Other ideas: Candy apples for favors, or even these which I think are adorable. Are you doing an entire dinner or hor' dourves?

I think these are pretty cute, if you do one per couple thats a dollar per person for the favors:

http://www.americanbridal.com/applachol.html

You can also do these with those little mini pumpkin gourds by cutting the stem and putting the placecard there, I think thats a cute way to do presentation and combine placeholder and favor in one ;-)

Another idea which I really like is that of the harvest. You can decorate the entrance with fall bounty, with things like pumpkins, cranberries, apples, gourds, dried wheat, and colorful preserved leaves, and some flowers like mums that will complement the colors. Just a huge pile of things in a nice wicker or wire basket strung up with cranberries or leaves.

What times of day is your wedding? Candles are an easy way to give nice ambiance but they are better for evening ;-) Mine was a day wedding so I didn't bother with this ;-) I'm assuming yours is too so you can enjoy the light in your greenhouse ;-)

(as you can see, I've been helping plan a wedding for october already, for my best friend, hehe!)

Anyway congrats, give us more details so we can help with the menu a tad ;-)

we're having ~40 people. I think I"ll be having the main course (channa masala) catered by a healthy food store here that does take out. I'll be recruiting close friends to help with the cookings. We're getting married in the greenhouse here: http://www.gpfn.sk.ca/hobbies/rga/

and honeymooning here: http://www.templegardens.sk.ca/index.htm we're only going about an hour away for our honeymoon, but it'll be sweet and loving just the same.

we're getting married at 5:30 pm, which in october will be around sunset, but the greenhouse is well lit. we're doing pics in the morning though. I just need to find two cheap dresses!

oh, also, we actually only have to worry about simple decorations. the greenhouse will already have a fall theme. :D

AWw that place is awesome!! chana masala MMMMM i want to come to your wedding!! hehe :-) I'm glad you are having it catered, doing it yourself is probably way more to worry about than you are going to want!!

We had 55 guests at our wedding, its a great size, you're gonna have a great time.

Congratulations! There was a gal I went to college with who got married on the day before Halloween, and they did a whole black/orange/red theme with "romantic" JackOLanterns, etc. (the couple are both big Halloween nuts). But perhaps that's not for everyone....lol.

I'm sure it will be lovely though..Fall is an *amazing* time of year.

So cute!!! :-)

What are you thinking for centerpieces? I've seen things as simple as a vase with dried wheat and cranberries. Or you could do hurricane lanterns with a wreath of wheat and cranberries at the base. The hurricane lanterns could be cute, and could be lit during the dinner which will take place after sunset since your ceremony is in the late afternoon. ;-)

I was actually thinking trying to made tealight holders out of apples and squash and putting them on a bed of fall leaves. the tealights would be red, orange and yellow.

I've seen ceramic apple tealight holders and some are quite pretty. I'm thinking the apples will turn brown after exposure to the air but I think acorn squash tealight holders would be fine. I have apple ornaments that you're welcome to if you think you could find a use for them.

Oh my gosh, I think October is the most romantic month for a wedding! I mean it. Fall is gorgeous and unique as it is not the usual choice for a wedding. I love the fall colored food ideas! Best wishes.

Congratulations! I'm so excited for you both!

One of the prettiest weddings I ever saw was a young couple at my parents' church. They didn't have much money to spend. Also, the man was Christian, the woman was pagan. So they decorated the church with wheat and grapes. It was inexpensive, beautiful, and had symbolic meaning for both of them. If my sweetie & I ever get married, that's how I want to decorate.

I love your idea of carrot and/or pumpkin cupcakes. Yum!

Wheat! That would be a great idea since you live in the wheat capital of Canada.

Gracie, how did they use the wheat? Tied up in bundles with twine or ribbon?

Awwww... congratulations you guys! I am so excited for you!! My invitation is in the mail I assume? :D I absolutely love the whole "autumn" theme idea... there are so many things you could do with it, and it sounds like there's been a ton of lovely suggestions...

You said you need dresses... what are you looking at - re: color, style, length, etc...? There's some great online resources for inexpensive, yet nice, options...

I'm glad your considering having some/part or the food catered... you'll discover as it gets closer, you'll be overwhelmed with all the things you have going on... don't overdo it, you want to be able to sit back and enjoy YOUR day!!

It was tied in bundles, though I don't remember what it was tied with. The effect was so simple and natural, and absolutely beautiful.

pumpkin soup recipe:

baked pumpkin or canned pumpkin
soy milk or regular milk (i usually use almond, now)
veggie broth, onions, potatoes
pumpkin pie seasonings (nutmeg, etc)

play with spices if you want it spicy (i like mine spicy-savory).

ok, boil onions and potatoes in veggiebroth and then puree with pumpkin. add spices and "milk" (whatever kind it is). simmer until everything is heated through. it's thoroughly awesome soup.

service idea for soup: tea cups of soup on saucers with tea spoons with pumpernickle rolls!

idea came from a wedding book idea. A young woman's favorite meal was tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. so, for her wedding, she wanted to serve this. Since she wasn't doing 'full service,' but rather hor's, she opted to have little wedges of grilled cheese on the saucer, and a tea cup with tomato soup! it just looked lovely!

i think the same could be done with pumpkin soup and hearty french or pumpernickle bread.
