I see this forum has been a little dead lately, so I post this:
I HATE sport hunting. It is bad. It is evil. It pushers populations to explode and harms the environment. It is nothing more then an excuse to kill things. I HATE sport hunting.

Now would be a good time to say I'm not an sentimental emotional child yelling 'Bambi killer' at every hunter with a gun. I haven’t seen Bambi, and I don’t intend to. My hatred for hunting is not based on pics. of cute Deer. I hate what there are doing to the victims of their 'sport' and always saying that its ‘good for them’. I know, and have the facts to back it up, that it is NOT. (note to self, GET OFF SOAP BOX!)

I'm not vocally opposed to hunting for food. I'd much prefer someone hunt and kill and eat a deer than go to the store and buy a prekilled deer. Ideally I'd prefer they'd do neither, but I think if people are going to eat meat then they should have to kill it and bring it home themselves.

I'm completely against Humans Killing for Food. We're always going on about how much more evolved we are then animals (BULL), so isn’t the next step to live in harmony?

I know (some) people think that the hunted animal at least had a free live before it was killed in stead of being kept in a dark stable, living on concrete or a metal grid.

Maybe so, but I hate it when they feed the animals to save them from dieing in winter and start shooting them in summer because there are so much of them……

... fell out of his tree stand last "seasons" and is now paralyzed.

My husband and I sat looking at each other, trying not to be mean, ... but all we could either think of to say was, "score one for the deer." (Of course, this was not to the co-worker or her ex!) I feel sorry for the guy because anyone can have an accident of any sort on any day ... heck, I could fall off the chair while trying to clean-out the microwave, but ... well ... now I'm just rambling.

I don't know why I posted this.

Many years ago I got invited to go deer hunting in the eastern part of the state with several lawyers and two judges. I decided to go, though I hadn't done any deer hunting in many years and have since given up mammal hunting altogether.

The night before, I was packing up my stuff and Mrs. Bank came into the room. She had already made clear her total opposition to the whole thing but was trying to be civil I suppose. She was looking around and picked up a bottle of "doe in heat" urine. She said "What is this?" and I told her it was urine from an estrus doe; you dabbed some on your boot soles and it made an attractant trail to your stand. She flung the bottle down and said "I SWEAR, I hope some big badass buck comes charging through the woods, knocks you down and reams your ass" then stormed out of the room.

I left the next day without speaking since she had locked herself in the other end of the house and I left early. When I got to my location and was preparing to go out into the field, I searched everywhere and couldn't find that bottle. It had been removed from my luggage. Also I had no ammo, it had conveniently disappeared from my stuff as well. Everyone else had plenty though so I managed to scrounge some .30-06 from my buddy. Saw 2 deer that trip but didn't take a shot at either; I'm always so intrigued when I see deer or bear that I just don't have the desire to shoot them at all.

All I can say it HA! I love stories of when Hunters get Hurt. (ex-hunters don’t worry, I have a good friend who use to hunt, but now is a vegan)
Over 6,084,000 Deer killed in one year, (by hunters alone). Only a very low number of hunters are hurt each year, (3-5?) that reminds me of another thing. There was a shark attack a wile ago in a place where sharks are not usually seen (I cant remember where . . . somewhere in NSW) and 1 man died. In the following month about 9 sharks where killed in a hunt for that one shark in that one lake. (They never got him, hehe) anyway the point it sharks kill about 6 people every year. We kill about 12 million sharks every year. Who’s winning?

somehow i just find this statement sad, no offense or anything, but i find it odd that your desire upon seeing animals of such beauty would be to shoot them and that not having a desire to shoot them is somehow odd to you.

Majake, I never said it seemed odd to me. I've hunted and killed far more animals than I can recall, I was an avid sport hunter during my late teens to the mid 20s. As I got older it bothered me to make any animal suffer and I quit. I don't see that as odd. Just an altered perspective. Happens to lots of folk as they get older ;)

If I or my family needed food and had no alternative I would kill something today and serve it up. Otherwise, save the annual bird hunt, I'm out of sport hunting. Unlike others I don't see hunting as a moral problem, but it's not for me.

I know about sport hunting all too well.

My stepfather is an avid sport-hunter (and is a wonderful man, btw. It's impossible to find better), but I don't really know what goes on in his head about it because he's not a big talker. He's ok with me being veg, but I think he thinks I'm going a overboard with the "animals are people too" thing.

It's really bad in deer season if he manages to get something. He "cleans" them himself. One year he shot a doe, and decided he'd "clean" it in our garage. What ended up happening was that it was hung skinless, upside down from the rafters and seriously traumatized a friend of mine who came to visit.

I'm very glad to this day that I refused to see it, and eat it too.

I'm new here. I've been looking for a site with like minded folk for a long time. I though that VeggieBoards might provide that. But, pro-war, pro-hunting vegetarians?? ROFL!! I can clearly see why the animal rights movement in America is several light years behind Europe. Such absurd contradictions would be inconceivable over here.

Well there are plenty of 'like-minded' boards out there, ours probably isn't one of them. Unlike other boards where thinking for yourself is frowned upon we pride ourselves on our individuality.

Welcome, and don't write us off just yet... :)

Well, we have a few people here who are either not veg*n (like KC Kid), or eat a mostly veg*n or totally veg*n diet, but do not believe in AR, but do have health or other reasons- Bank, Tame, and Robert. We also have people from many different countries and backgrounds.

The vast majority of us here have strong animal welfare or AR views, and one would imagine most people with those views would also be against war. However, I don't think one's diet puts all the rest of one's thoughts into a predictable category, nor should it. I like Veggieboards bc people have such diverse views. We don't agree on everything, but most of agree about a lot of things, and that is supportive. But I would never want to be part of a cookie cutter community.

So stick around and get to know us a little, we are a complicated but wonderful lot!

VP: some folks just don't agree that people can make their own decisions and still be a good person regardless of dietary choice. You know... unless you toe the PeTA line.... :rolleyes:
