I had him on my lap the other day and I was trying to imagine what it would be like not to have him around. I can still hear him meowing at me. We knew something was wrong when he lost his appetite a couple of days ago. Milt was the hungriest cat in the world. He was always begging for food and would wait at our bedroom door in the morning so he could bug us when we woke up until we fed him. Anytime he heard someone in the kitchen he would come running and start begging. I could never leave certain foods on the table unless I was right there or he would jump up and start eating. He was always pawing at us while we ate trying to get something. His favorite was chips. I took him to the vet a few months ago because he was always so hungry but he was so skinny. They thought he might have some thyroid problem but the tests all came back neg. He was an old cat, somewhere around 16-18 years old, maybe even older and he had been with us for 13 of them. We knew he might not be with us much longer especially the last few days, he just didn’t seem right. Yesterday morning when he wasn’t there yelling for food my hub went looking for him and found him, he had just laid down in a favorite spot and died. We all miss him very much.

I'm so sorry for your loss, slynny. Be comforted in knowing that he lived a good, long life and that he died peacefully in his sleep in his favourite spot.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I lost my old cat a few days ago, he went rather like you describe mIlty - just stopped eating, and faded away. Sounds like Milty lived a good long life.

I feel for you... My mom just told me a few days ago about our kitty dying. He was ours when I lived with her, but she's been taking care of him since I got married. I'm actually going with her to the shelter to find a new friend tomorrow. There's no kitty that will ever replace a friend, but you can make more friends that will be just as precious. I'm deeply sorry for your loss. At least he went in peace.

Thanks very much everyone, I really do appreciate all your compassion and kind words. Thank you.
My sympathies to those others who mentioned they recently lost their beloved companions.

We just lost a cat, too, so I know how hard this is for you. All I can say is, just try to think of how wonderful a life your cat had, because you two were fortunate enough to have met. (That's the only thing that makes me feel better.)

aw i'm sorry. our old girl left us 2 years ago and i still half expect to see her when i walk into my mom's house. she was 18 and like Milty was very skinny and ate constantly. in her last few months she'd been drinking a very large bowl full of water every day (a lot for a cat) and then running to the litter box. for a couple days she got pretty sick and was throwing up a lot and not eating and then seemed to bounce back. the vet warned us her kidneys were probably failing and there wasn't much we could do but try to keep her hydrated, my mom had her put down a few months later.

it's sad when they have to leave us but be comforted in the fact that he didn't suffer, he had a peaceful passing and had a long life full of love. and he'll always be with you in spirit and in memory
