Okay apparently this is to get rid of the law that says that the president can only run for two terms? Thought you might like to know, have fun in your dictatorship.

Well, at least I've got the chance to get out of here. I feel sorry for the rest of you. :(

Whenever leaders are allowed to blame their actions on others, they open the door to total control. Just like Hitler blamed the jews, Bush blames the terrorists.

hasn't this happened before? It usually comes to naught for the very reason that most people do NOT want to live in a dictatorship.

I highly doubt that this will pass. Not any more than the likelyhood that Arnold will convince us to get rid of the rule that only an american by birth can run for president.
It comes up quite frequently. Keep in mind, the two-term restriction is actually still fairly recent. FDR was elected 4 times.
Also, this is a Constitutional Amendment, meaning the process is a tad more complex that what Satya seems think. (Which doesn't surprise me, as afew understand the entire process.)

It won't happen. First, like Tame said, constitutional amendments are complicated and difficult (intentionally) to get enacted. The last new one was back in the early 70's. Second, nobody in the current congress would support it. The Democrats obviously don't want it, and any sane Republican wouldn't support it for fear of a political backlash...especially considering how much the current administration has come under fire for trying to consolidate its power.

If this passes along with the bill to allow foriegners to run for president then it's just a matter of time before you get Arnold Schwarzenegger as <terminator voice> PREZEEDENT VOR LIFE </terminator voice>

You know, I'd support allowing our president to be foreign-born, if it weren't for the fact that these sorts of bills are being drawn up SPECIFICALLY to get Schwarzenegger in office. :)

i'd say the two term limit is entrenched. people like a guaranteed change in power. i'm not much of an activist but even i would protest an amendment to the constitution to allow additional terms. now, on the issue of birthplace... i don't see why it makes that much of a difference. if the will of the people is to have arnold, i don't have a problem with it just because of his birthplace.

I agree 100% and I heard a guy talking on NPR once that had the perfect solution. Amend the constitution such that foreign born citizens can become president effective in 30 years, that way you aren't changing the constitution for one person (which would be wrong, very wrong).
Also I agree with the others, 22nd amendment is what, 60 years old? There have probably been at least 6 "attempts" to repeal it. At this point in time, there is no flippin way it would be ratified in the unlikely event that it got through both houses of congress.

I would literally turn tail and flee this country post haste if that ****nut stayed in another term. Never thought it would come to that but I seriously would sell up, grab my kid and use that dual citizenship thing. I love it here and am biding my time waiting for him to go. He had better go.

Arnold is going to be the President. He will not be stopped by the laws and the constitutions and the supreme courts and the things of this nature. First he was the predator then he was the terminator and the was the gubanator and now he will be the presidentanator. We are not going to take any more of the crap from the french girlie mens and the iraqi insurgent girlie mens and these things.
