Ok, this was not a companion animal, but it was still very cute and a good opportunity to educate someone on the wildlife near me.
We had a garage sale today and we had a large tent for sale. We had it set up in the back yard so people could look at it. A family of five bought it, so we were showing them how to drop and fold it. As we were folding it up, we found a little short tail shrew underneath it and as we uncovered it, it made a mad dash back under the tent to remain out of sight. As we continued to fold up the tent, it kept running back underneath it. It was very cute. As it finally had to run elsewhere for cover, I told the mother of the family about shrews. She thought it was a mouse, but I explained that mice are at most half the size of the shrew and went on with a few more shrew tidbits.
