That really makes me sick... it's a good thing to show to my omni friends, though.

Of all the things that hurt that I read here, this one has struck a new hurtful place. Gawd. I think it is just seeing it in such massive scale. And to know that 1500 people work there and think it is okay.

My husband and I took the 5 to San Francisco last year. I cried when we drove past that place It was SO depressing....it was aggonizing. My husband made me put the seat back so I could lay down and not have to see it. He's an omni, and it even made his stomach turn. Unfortunately, not enough to make him quit eating meat. Now, the stench of cow sh*t radiated for M-I-L-E-S!!!!!! Miles upon miles upon miles. I litertally had to keep the window rolled up for well more than half of the trip...which was a 6 hour drive.

Just for a few steroids. Just for this lot. They're performance enhancing! Not okay for pro baseball but just fine for your 8 year old.

 Genius.

Very interesting article and pictures. Quite amazing actually.

Yea, I really can't see anything at at close view, but know what goes on. Is there really anyway to stop it? I've done many educational tablings for my state AR group, but don't feel like it makes much of a difference, certainly not enough to prevent this massive horror. Gain control of tv satelites and transmit the truth?

Satellite photos of cattle feedlots. Even when I zoomed in all the way, I wasn't sure if the tiny specks were individual cows or clusters. No grass, no trees, no shade. Just the brown and black of dirt, cows, and sh*t.

Very sad, very sick, and should be shown to the world.

I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but i really don't see anything even at the closest zoom, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I wouldn't be able to make a guess at what those pics are without knowing beforehand.

I'm not exactly sure, but if you look at the buildings and stuff you can get a sense of the scale. The roads are also a clue.

I've attached a screenshot in which I think I've identified a cattle truck. If you look at the truck, then look at the dark specks in the feedlots, then you can get a sense of how tiny the cows appear -- and how incredibly many there are.

Once I found the truck, I zoomed back out so I could see the whole complex. It's truly staggering. And this is just one beef operation out of however many thousands or hundreds of thousands there are.

This is very saddening to me.

And borealis, I think you are right about that object being a truck. It appears to be one to me also.

Yes, but like all industrial animal production industries, feedlot owner/operators must be properly, litigiously and legislatively motivated to pack up and move on.

Well, I for one certainly sleep easier knowing that I don't purchase any products that support that evil industry. :)

Did anyone notice the horrible and ignorant comments people posted at the end of the article?

The comment that got me: "Interesting, but I'm okay with it. Steaks for dinner on the grill tonight whether I'm appalled or not." How can a person be appalled by that and not change their eating habits????
