View Full Version : Alien Abduction

What do you think of this phenomenon?

Is it confabulation surrounding sleep paralysis, or some kind of hallucination?

Are the "abductees" just making it up for attention?

Or are people really getting yanked out of their beds at 4am and subjected to the proctoscope, et al?

One theory I read recently suggested that the increase in paranormal activity in recent decades, including alien abduction, is more symbolic than concrete, and heralds the coming of another step in our evolution. The idea is that there's more to reality than meets the eye, alot more, and what we are seeing are our brain's primitive interpretations of the sneak peeks we're getting of that larger reality, a reality that will be more obvious to us when we evolve to the next level.

What's your take on alien abduction?

Pfft. They're just making it all up, Rev. :stinkeye:

I think the human mind's ability to create miracles and demons far outstrips anything supernatural or paranormal.

Didn't you do this thread once already, Rev?

Is there something you are trying to tell us? :stinkeye:

I agree with Kirk.

I also think there is no way we are alone in the universe, so the possiblity exists to me that we could have visitors here. Although I'd guess that it isn't anywhere near the amount of times it would have to be if all the "abductees" were telling the truth.

Counterbean had an alien thread which for whatever reason posting desisted quite abruptly recently. I don't why that should be seriously becoz I deleted all my giggly posts. :D :| He wanted a serious discussion and I chose to respect that despite irresistable wisecracks now erased.... I wonder if anyone can take Rev seriously. :D *trademark grin* hawhaw.

I think they have a right to their own beliefs and who are we to question them? :)

<< remembers a time when the UFO phenomenom was still taken seriously, a time before attention-seekers and New Age-fanatics ridiculed the entire field with their wild "abduction stories", a time when aliens were still little green fellows with cute antennas on the head who travelled to our planet in the midst of night in silvery flying saucers, flashing with bright lights in many colours
<< weeps bitter tears

Confabulation is such a great word. :smitten:

Anyway. I agree with Kirk.

I think Kirk is looking in the right direction...

But I have a tendency to buy into the whole "next step in our evolution" approach as well. I'm not saying that the alien abductions are truly happening, but that humans are beginning to develop an awareness of the universe beyond the concrete, immediate, objective reality. Those who have experienced "alternate realities" know what I'm talking about.

(I promise I'm not on drugs right now...)

Sleep paralysis is a likely candidate for many .... I have been a victom of this twice. I did not experience it as an abduction or anything like that, but it was definitely a terrifying experience. I thought it was a ghost of something, in the fear.

Now I can look back and I am certain it was indeed sleep paralysis, but it is a very real feeling experience. Sounds, sights, feelings, all are very strong and clear. Didn't sleep too well the nights after, I can tell you that.

I have a lot of freaky dreams that are very realistic in which a UFO flies above me, spots me, and shoots down a beam and I can't move and it's trying to take me up. I have learned a way to "break the spell". I yell out in my mind some sort of defiance, like "I will not go! You can not control me!" It's pretty freaky. I'm wondering if it's a form of sleep paralysis. I never heard of that until I read the thread on it: http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=38290

It sounds like a run of the mill nightmare, but one which you have learned to partially control. Have you heard of Lucid Dreaming, the phenomenon where you learn to become conscious in your dreams, and control them?

expressing an opinion about a cultural phenominon isn't really questioning an individual's beliefs.

thta being said, i think there are a combination of things going on. I think something is happening that has happened throughout time. there are descriptions of people being taken by angels, demons, fairies, and various other creatures into castles or houses in the sky where they preform sex acts or are examined in various ways by these creatures before being returned home. It is only in the modern era (within the 20th century) that people called these creatures 'aliens' or UFOs, and surprisingly their shapes have changed over the years too from small Ewok looking creatures to the most popular 'Greys.'

So, at a certain level, i think that something is happening--whether that's real/physical, astral, or in dream states (dreams involving cultural icons and archetypes to depict certain aspects of the individual human's psychic (psyche) needs or learnings). I think that people who experience these things have a profound and life changing experience, no matter which level they're actually recieving this on.

For the most part, i don't believe that alien abduction is 'real' in the physical sense. I do believe it may be real in the astral sense (accidental astral projection without adequte preparation can be daunting. what seems harmless may not be, and then the person finds themselves in a strange and perhaps vulnerable position.). I think it is most likely functioning in the dream/psyche and archetype sense--which has profound effect on every facet of being (not that the others wouldn't).

I am not inclined, though, to criticize individuals who describe their experiences as being 'real'/physical as opposed to astral or dreams. i may have a different interpretation or understanding of their description of events, but i'm willing to set aside my interpretations for their own--as they were the ones who experienced it and can therefore provide their own context, description, and explaination for it.

But, my feeling about it as a cultural phenominon is that it is usually either astral or dream-state.

i dig lucid dreaming.

I've had dreams in which I'm aware that I'm dreaming and even stated as such IN THE DREAM, but I never got to the stage where I could actually control my dream.
