A better view of the sculpture:

Ok, it's a protest, no it's a prayer vigil, no it's not a protest, they are protesting but not the scuplture.
It seems to me that adults make a bigger deal out of needing to explain to kids something that doesn't need much explanation. What needs to be explained? It's a sculpture of a nude person.

I try to have be more openminded about people demonstrating/praying/or whatever they are doing after going on AR protests myself. Personally I think it's a lovely sculpture and I don't think it has any affect on the purity of the nation or Nashville. Nude sculptures have always been around and the body was respected and honored. But I guess, at the same time, I could understand why some people wouldn't want statues of naked people out in a park.

Another absurd nude statue fiasco...

This is old, but the other made me think of it.

I wonder if they would freak out at Michelangelo's sculpture of David...
This is bonkers.
I like the statue a lot.

Your comment reminded me of this episode of The Simpsons. (http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/GuidePageServlet/showid-146/epid-1307/)

oh my GOD! I think I might have seen a bronzed dirty part!
It is time to repent!
Those poeple are at the very least really uptight and probably no fun at a party.
I think people who think like that really need to get laid. (ok-that wasn''t nice of me)
They are so obsessed with avoiding their bodies, zygotes and thinking that being a sexual being is a sin, that I don't see how they could be happy with themselves or in life.
America has sexual permissiveness I am sure, but for god's sakes, people get all uptight when they see a statue or part of a boob at a superbowl half-time show. We seem like a bunch or puritanical hypocrites most of the time.
Like it is a boob, or a statue, a bit of nudity, DEAL WITH IT!
It is no big woOWoWo deal, only when people act like tools and make it one.
I can't remember turning on NBC and seeing hard core anal ('sexually permissive' culture), and even if I did I would be suprised, but just change the channel.
I think someone should tell them that it is time to (literally) take the blinders off of their eyes.
One thing you should realize: this protest (or whatever you might want to call it) got no coverage in the local newspaper. None. Zero.
The Tennessee Independent Media Center does provide a valuable service in providing articles about events that are not covered in mainstream media, but some of these events may just be unimportant.
The nude statues have been the subject of some controversy here, but not all that much, when you consider that Nashville is one of the "churchy-est" towns in the country.
Nashville is also one of the cruelest towns or cities in the country when it comes to the treatment of the homeless. Most churches here preach endlessly about things like sex and personal purity, but have very little social concern. They get all worked up about the unborn but don't give a $h!t about the born.
"Nashville has more strip clubs and porno shops, adult businesses than any other city in America for the size of our population. We also have more churches than any other city for the size of our population," says Matthew Stark of Pure Life Revolution. These are objectively true facts.
But then he goes on to say, "We think those two are opposite of each other."
I disagree. The guilt and repression preached by the churches makes Nashville a fertile field for porn, strip clubs, and all the other "forbidden" items in the adult industry.
For heavens sake! this is just an artistic statue. It's not sexual in any way!!!! Why do people assume that nudity is always a sexual thing?

i really like the statue its beatiful not obscene in anyway. Oh well, they have the right to protest but I don't agree with them at all.
