Wasn't sure if this should be posted in the technology section or this one. Basically, here is the deal. Until June 4th CompUSA is having a rebate deal on a 160GB IDE hard drive from Western Digital. It is 129.99 + Tax, Minus three rebates totally $100 (40, 30, 30). Here is what you do.

***There is $100 in rebates, the rebate forms are here***
$40, copy UPC: http://image.compusa.com/pdfs/0015924.pdf
$30, original UPC, copy receipt: http://image.compusa.com/pdfs/0015997.pdf
$30, copy UPC, copy receipt: http://image.compusa.com/pdfs/0015998.pdf
************************************************** ********

1. Buy the hard drive, in-store only. Here is an online link to the product:
http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...8017&pfp=SEARCH

2. Wait a few weeks after June 4th (which is when the rebate deal will expire). Don't worry, you have until July 5th to mail in your rebates, but you need to wait until the retail stores forget about the rebate deal on this hard drive.

3. Make all the necessary copies of receipts, then return to CompUSA with the original for a price match!

4. Try to price match to the following:
Sam's Club: 79.84 : http://www.samsclub.com/eclub/main_...0:-43923:686974
(if they respect this as a retailer, you will actually end up with $20 in your pocket after rebates and a brand new hard drive)

If they do not accept Sam's Club as a retailer, try Outpost.com, these prices reflect in-store prices at Fry's. They should accept this if they do not accept Sam's Club.
Outpost.com: 99.99:http://shop1.outpost.com/product/34...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
With rebates, you will only pay tax for your brand new hard drive.

If they are convinced Fry's and Outpost.com are not retailers, they have to accept OfficeMax or Circuit City... you can likely drive to one of these from CompUSA. Let them know who is boss!
Office Max, 119.99: http://www.officemax.com/max/soluti...ckOID=537173969
Circuit City: 119.99: http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/prod..._n=67&WT.mc_t=U

If this last resort is what you end up paying you will wind up paying 19.99 + tax (tax will apply to the full 129.99 or 119.99). Not too bad for a 160GB hard drive...

... nor is the full price without price matching, which comes to be about $40 (here in Santa Rosa / Sebastopol) California after the rebates.

Good luck kiddos.
