Besides what I consider to the not so great Tofurkey itself, there's some excellent stuff by them otherwise. I had the Italian sausage tonight, really tasty, a bit spicy, sun dried tomatos and basil in it, definately a recommendation. The Italian slices and hickory smoked tofurkey slices are good too, had them in the last few days.

i like the cranberry and stuffing slices (although they, like everything else, are too salty) and the jerky.

I love that italian sausage. It's great with pasta. I like the roast turkey slices, and I like the brats.

I have loved their sausages for a while now, and I recently tried their oven roasted slices. This was the first 'lunch meat' I found that didn't totally gross me out which is saying something. The slices were actually YUMMY!

I don't care for the Italian sausage or the jerky -- I much prefer Stonewall's. I like the original roast okay, though I wish they wouldn't package it with the dumplings.

Well, I think the Italian Sausage kicks ass, I must say, nicely spiced but not overly so, looks good, smells good....good weekend to taste test the Beer Brats...with a couple beers too :)

I enjoy all the Tofurkey products, and irritating omnis by saying their brand name repeatedly, and impassively smiling when informed that "tofurkey" is a stupid word.

I like the sausage, but think the deli slices are icky!

Guess I'll try the sausage. Thanks for the reviews. I don't care for the roast or the deli slices. But I always appreciate a new product that tickles the taste buds.

I like the roast, but can't comment on any of the other products since they are not available where I am.

Brah-- you get them in Toronto? I e-mailed the Tofurky people once about getting them in Ottawa and they said they don't sell their products here except for the roast due to the exchange rate (by the time you tack all the costs on the products are too expensive and not worth trying to sell here).

I just bought a boat-load of tofurkey stuff! Okay... just 4 different things, but they're hard to find around here, so I feel lucky. Beer Brats, Italian sausage, Hickory slices and roasted deli slices.

I've had the Italian sausage before, but the others are all new to try.

I'm looking forward to it. :D

So why did the tofurky people say they don't sell these things in Canada? :grr:

Here's the e-mail I got:

Hi, thanks for your recent email. Getting more of our products
up in Canada has been a tough nut to crack! We have a couple of distributors
(2 in the east, 1 in the west) which carry a few of our products, mostly our
"holiday" items like the Tofurky Roasts, gravy, stuffing, etc. Wild
West Organics, out in BC actually orders the widest variety of our products,
including our popular deli slices, gourmet sausages and Tempeh.
Unfortunately, that won't prove to helpful to you there in Ottawa.

We're continuing to work on more extensive distribution but we have to
deal with special labels and packaging (for the east coast) and the exchange
rate makes it difficult for the Canadian distributors to make ends meet and
make a profit. We're working on it though - so hang in there and thanks for
your kind words, we greatly appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Paul Berty

Meatless, that is a puzzler...

My critique on the "oven roasted" deli slices - Very good. Certainly a nice change from the Yves deli slices (the Bologna is the only one we like).

I live in Vancouver and THANKFULLY I can find Tofurkey products at Whole Foods. There are 2 other chains of HFS around and I could only find the roasts at them. I assume because Whole Foods is US chain, we can get the whole line? I am so happy to have discovered the Italian Sausage. I put it in everything! Pasta, perogies...fry up on and eat alone....yum!

Continued trying a few more Tofurkey products this weekend....the Italian sausage is definately a winner, just right amount of spiciness, not too bland or too spicy, good consistency and color...the Beer Brats are also good but not quite as flavorful, need a little saurkraut or roasted peppers along side I think, but overall pretty good, also good consistency and appearance....the Cranberry and Stuffing slices are VERY GOOD, I think they suffer from their name, cranberry and stuffing flavor can either repel or maybe inspire a bit of interest in the consumer, but in general not a winning name, I think, but i do think it's probably the best slice of theirs...the Philly Style roast beef on the other hand lacks flavor, I feel, looks right and has the correct texture for it but there's so little flavor to it....anybody recommend a veggie roast beef slice?

I had a Tex-Mex tempeh burger tonight, pretty good, mellow taste, I'd give it the thumbs up. Say on a 5 scale, about a 3.5

Tofurkey hickory smoked slices were a big hit on our sandwiches this afternoon. Must get them again!

Cherry_Critter, I have seen the Tofurkey slices and sausages at "Drive Organics" on Commercial Drive. Just an FYI. :)

Hey Meatless,

I went shopping today at Loblaws at South Keys (in Ottawa, as I'm living there). Anyway, They had two types of the sliced tofurkey. I believe hickory smoked and whatever would be the original?

Just thought a fellow Ottawonian should let you know of products?
