View Full Version : Please Sell Me A Rifle And Direct Me To The Nearest Clock Tower
I feel entitled to a rant due to the events of the past few weeks. Here is a list:
1. I despise the area that I live in, and one of the things that keeps me sane is a small garden I've spent countless back-breaking hours working on. I converted it from a patch of overgrown, deeply rooted weeds using only hand tools. Finally after months of hard work and a season of waiting, I got my reward...lovely flowers started to bloom. I got to enjoy it for a week or so before the neighbours came and picked them.
2. A $200 peice of equipment was stolen from my private fenced yard while I was at work. It was bought on credit and hasn't been paid for yet. I am still recovering from a financial blow I took last year and can't afford to replace it, and it's something I truly need and was intending to use next weekend.
3. As I've stated elsewhere, my supervisor's head is way up her butt. Although I'm good at my job, I may be in danger of losing it as she has gotten some flack lately and would like me to "admit" to the higher ups that I'm at fault for any problems, and has given me a list of half (well, quarter at best) truths to tell them. I said no. I wonder every day on my way to work if she'll fire me before she loses the ability.
4. Some asshat took the liberty of parking on my tiny property on my day off. I phoned the police but all they could do was ticket the vehicle, which was blocking my access to the area I was working on. I don't know who it was, but the couple I suspect it belonged to has no hobbies other than drinking and yelling. So they would have plenty of time to pester me with endless nonsense if they felt "wronged" by my refusal to be their doormat.
So now I feel like this ->    etc.
I hardly ever get upset so I don't really know how to handle it...any tips? Besides the clock tower idea, I mean. :p

As long as you have the word "asshat" you'll never be alone.
Seriously, that is all rotten rotten stuff. If you feel some empathy coming from a Westerly direction, that would be me.
I don't have too many suggestions, other than: it sounds like since nonsense is coming at you from all sides, so maybe some major changes are in order...??? [like moving, new job etc]. You shouldn't have to put up with the job stuff. The flower and equipment theft stuff, well...that could be a function of your area or just a function of humankind; I am very paranoid about theft so I have little locks on everything.
Blah blah Brah, that was very unhelpful. Hang in there.

Yes, I'll thrice the notion that 'asshat' is, like, totally the coolest word of the week for me.

I am going to try to incorporate "Asshat" into at least 20 sentences today! I don't have much to offer you other than a hug. I hope everything starts looking up for you soon.
tahssa is asshat spelked ba-Qwirks.... Don't let anybody breakka your stride-! Nobody's gonna hold you down..No-oohhhhh.. Sorry.. I was merely trying to entertain you away from the snipers nest......... Listen to Brah. There's likely some change to implement.. Life's funny. There are always flags to send us in directions, and often what seems like a horrible stroke of bad luck is in fact the antithesis if we only knew what would happen otherwise. A cursed flat tire is never as bad as a fatal collision. View these as tests of your patience, and your adaptability, but don't let the b.s. stress you out. It's like placing things above your importance level, and the little shiest, no matter how important it seems at the moment, is never as important as youuuuu.. T.
Thanks Brah and Tash for the advice, and everyone for the kindness (and shameless use of the word "asshat" ). It's probably going to cost me about 10-15K in profit, but I think I may plan a move a little earlier than expected. Can't really put a pricetag (at least not such a small one :p) on peace of mind, I think.

I think it's so sad people do this. I've lived in neighbourhoods where this happened.
One house put up a headstone (RIP) for one of its plants that was stolen from its front yard. I thought that was clever, but also wondered if it didn't encourage people from taking more plants...
One of our neighbours has put up a sign about one of their plants (can't remember what it is but it's delicate). It reads something like "please do not pick the ____ flowers. This is a delicate plant. if you are curious about it or would like one, please knock on our door or leave us a note. Thanks"
I thought that was better.
 about everything else...

Wow....dang it. I have no idea what to say other than it sounds like you're really having a difficult time. I can't believe someone would come onto your property and PICK your flowers. That's aweful. And also about the equipment that was stolen. You definitely have permission to whine.

I can't believe it either! What ever happened to picking wildflowers?
I have one idea for you: get retired early, then have your husband start an obsession with your lawn. It soon will move on to flowers. Then, whenever someone tries to pick your flowers, they will know that your husband is going to be standing next to his flowerbeds waving a stick at them. Your flowers, in fact, your intire HOUSE, will never be hurt again! (my neighbor did this and I can officially say it is working. We only speak to him once a year.)
That was I joke. (the neighbor thing was try though.)
But siriusly, it sounds like you had a really really bad couple of days. It's gonna make me feel a lot better when my mom sees my math tests recently.
You should go to your neighbors house and ask for the flowers back. :) Course, you can't plant them, but normally they will realize that the flowers were yours and maybe by you some potted ones to re-plant.
About the stealing thing: Well, that sucks. Big time. Actually, I can't think of anything to say except that my dad's car got stolen a few years ago and police did almost nothing about it. It's a good thing he wasn't an ER doc anymore, or else my mom would've been up all night driving him places. Maybe you can borrow the equipment from your neighbors? That doesn't fix the money thing, but it you still needed it...
 I hope things get better...

I'd hook a comealong to the crate and drag it off, though you might not have a safe anchor point.

I know exactly how you feel, my mom has spent thousands of hours on a memorial garden for her mother and a few other family members that have passed and people come all the time and steal things. They even took a stone carved with my aunt's name, birth and death dates  ! My mom is considering spending a few nights outside with a hose waiting for people to come into our yard but thats the only solution we've come up with

Oh my friggin' god...1. How sick is that? and 2. What are they going to do with it anyway? The bastards...
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded, you made me feel better. :lovesign:

If you have a dog or a cat, I think you should take some of their poo, put it in a spray bottle, mix it around with some water and spray it on your flowers  That oughta learn those flower thiefs when they go in for the sniff.

Ugh... sucks.
As far as the equipment.. check your credit card agreement. Mine comes with insurance for stolen items and I didn't even know about that until I read the fine print after some stuff was stolen. You may not be covered, but it wouldn't hurt to check.
Also, make sure you got a police report on the theft. If you don't get a refund, things you bought that were stolen during the same year are a tax write-off. Someone I know used that last year... It doesn't make up for the lost items, but it's something.
I hope things get better.

" Some asshat took the liberty of parking on my tiny property on my day off. I phoned the police but all they could do was ticket the vehicle, which was blocking my access to the area I was working on."
You have, I believe, a legal right to physically remove the vehicle yourself. I would break a window, get in and release the handbrake, and let it roll out into the road. Then reset the handbrake. Do not tell the police you did this. Probably no witnesses will notice or care. The police will be forced to tow it.

By the way, it sounds like you live in the same area I live in!
Farmers have to organize militarily. Simply knowing how to farm is not enough. There will always be someone who wants to wait and watch, let someone else do all the work, then steal the results of their work -- steal their garden produce -- or even just vandalize it. I believe the solution for this kind of thing is belonging to an extended family that uses organized physical resistance and retaliation. If your genetic family won't do this with you, you have to make a new family out of found people, form kinship bonds out of those with like minds, rather than like genetics.

You HAVE been wronged, and the Council sees fit to allow you to commit murder. Go forth, and bag your limit of asshats.
