Hello all fellow Horse owners & Riders!
I had a question concerning horse tack use if your a vegan. Do you own a leather saddle? or do you use a wintec, etc?

Thanks,
Autumn

I have both wintec and leather saddles as I ride English and Western. I usually use the wintec one for regular western pleasure riding, however I don't have an English one - too expensive!! I show my horse and have to use leather saddles for the show ring. I realize people are going to have all sorts of problems and issues with my choice of animals, what I use them for, and the equipment I have - but please save those concerns for another time or place.
I use leather bridles all the time, they're gentler on my horse's skin, the synthetic ones really irritated her. Also use leather boots and gloves - :( yeah, guess I'm pretty bad at the whole vegan lifestyle thing...
If I could find affordable, comfortable synthetic tack, I would use it.

I own a leather saddle and bridle for my little horse. I bought the saddle years ago (cost me 6 months of wages when I was 17!), and I don't plan on buying another anytime soon. I have owned wintecs in the past and while they are great, I will probably for the time being stick with what I've got. If theres an appropriate non-leather alternative to any of my tack/clothing etc I will always choose it however. Basically my horse's comfort comes first when I'm choosing gear.

"Using it up", old items are leather (before vegan), as they wear out they are being replaced with vegan tack.

Does anyone know WHERE to buy non-leather tack?
My horse is allergic to the treatment stuff for leather but my old saddle is waaaay old and I need a new one but I just moved and I have no idea who sells it.
Does anyone know of the order-special stuff and if they have a web-site?
Until then im stuck with bareback

They have great tack. Do a search on google, though. You might come up with more.

I just realized you cannot buy from the site.... Try doversaddlery.com, statelinetack.com, valleyvey.com, etc.

My old horse used to have a synthetic saddle. Originally he had a leather one, but the tree broke so we got a new one. Obviously synthetic was the only choice. We got it second hand out of adtrader. His bridle was leather, but was a gift. It would be pointless to throw out a really good quality, expensive bridle to buy a synthetic one.

Wow!! It's great to see some other horse lovers here on VB. I had hoped that not everyone here was against horse-back riding. :D

We had horses when I was small, and I'd love to have more. I was taught to ride Western.
