I know there's a lot out there on this subject, but this is pretty thorough with many links, and includes credible people in the field. I'm bookmarking it.
And I'd be interested to see if something like this comes to the Seattle Times.
It's starting to get a fair amount of mainstream press. I don't know if that will make any difference to the way people react to the idea.

P.S. I think your first link is broken.
2013 isn't even the most pessimistic estimate. Some people think we are at peak right now, because several large fields are either in decline (North Sea) or are expected to go into decline soon (Cantarell, Ghawar). Personally, I'm looking at the pessimistic estimates - better safe than sorry!
The first link works for me, but it loads very slowly.
