My Simee keeps throwing up... :(

It started maybe a month ago...and nothing has changed (that I can tell)...I haven't changed his food and when my sister moved in in March or so he started picking at her cats' food and it didn't seem to bother him...

Sometimes he'll throw up un-digested food (sorry for the detail); sometimes it's digested and then other times it's just water/liquid.

He's about a year old and he's not ever done this before......

I know lots will probably say take him to the vet, but anyone with more "young cat" experience...is this just something they do or should I be alarmed? He shows no other signs of illness...he plays/sleeps/cuddles just the same...

:nigel: N/C.

ETA (after SilverC's post): his frequency is about 2-3 times a week....his vet is closed Sundays so...Monday :(

Vomiting can be a symptom of any number of conditions. It could be intestinal parasites, food allergy, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatits, kidney disease...the list goes on and on.

Yes, vomiting that much is definately something to see the vet about. Wouldn't you go to the doctor if you were throwing up for a month?

The vet will probably want to do a fecal test, blood work and possibly xrays. The sooner you get the cat in and diagnosed, the sooner you and your vet can work out a proper treatment.

My cats have a tendancy to throw up, but multiple times a week is cause enough for a vet visit. Especially if it isn't just hairballs. We found out one of our cats had thyroid disease after we took him in because he was vomitting a lot. It's worth the trip to find out if there is a problem. The cat can't take himself.

Vet visits can never hurt. Vomiting 2-3 times a week may be a sign that something is amiss, especially if it's been going on for a month or so. It may be nothing, but it may be something and the only way to know is if you go to the vet.

Good Luck.

Vomiting can also be a sign of heartworm disease or something blocking food from leaving the stomach by the normal route, plus the other diseases mentioned. The minimum tests that should be done for a vomiting cat is bloodwork (CBC, chem panel, heartworm test) and two view abdominal xrays. If intestinal parasites are suspected, a fecal could also be done.
