yes, i know it's almost 10pm. but whatever - i'm staying up all night and writing, because i can without having to hide my wakefulness from my mother. oy - i've been an insomniac for years, but for some reason, if i stay up all night, she thinks i'm on drugs. well, i guess this time, technically i am (caffeine), but even if i stay up without the aid of coffee. bah.

my aunt got serious burns on her feet through socks from the sidewalk. she's diabetic and couldn't feel it happening.
I knew someone who had rheumatoid arthritis, which apparently can affect sensory nerves as well. She got second degree burns on her face once from a heating pad -- but didn't feel a thing.
