I am having difficulty finding a pair of boots Eric can wear for work that aren't $100+ bucks. He works in a machine shop with huge coils of metal, so it's kinda important to protect his tootsies. I've checked most stores around me, but most brands now have stupid leather uppers or other crap on/in them. I don't want to spend the big money on a pair, because they will get ruined in a short amount of time ( machine oil, kicking crap around, ect). Has anyone seen or know of any? Right now he's wearing his good steel-capped Ethical Wares and I'd really like to get him into a cheaper pair of beaters that are *just* for work. Thanks :)

how about payless shoes? I think they have vegan steel toe boots maybe something like this? http://www.payless.com/Catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?&TLC=Mens&SLC=MensBoots&BLC=MensBootsWork&Width=Wide&ItemCode=5850&LotNumber=000264&Type=Adult&Popularity=204&DescriptiveColor=Black

AFAIK, there's no such thing as vegan steel-toed boots that are under $100.
Hub's boots have to be OSHA certified on top of it all cause he wears his on construction sites (some supes are real sticklers about following OSHA rules) AND he has to have high-top cause he needs that ankle support that will carry him through a 12-hour day.
I hope someone comes along and proves me wrong on this cause I would really like to find some boots my man can wear, too....

Ahh, thanks! I don't know why I didn't think of checking Payless :)
There aren't any regulations at Eric's work about wearing steel caps, but he chooses to take the safe route and keep his toes intact ;) I should have clarified that they don't need to be "vegan certified" or anything, having all manmade materials is what I'm looking for. They'll be replaced at least once a year so we can't afford to keep replacing the really nice ones.

4EverGrounded - the boots that berrycat linked states that they are OSHA approved. I don't know if that helps any :)
"All steel toes meet or exceed OSHA required ANSI Safety Toe Standards Z41 PT91 MI/75 C/75. "
