I want to complain about last night's American Idol results show but I feel bad talking about pop culture when there are more important things happening. :(

I haven't seen the show, but I would like to discuss something else before my feelings over rule my behavior.
So here goes:
Here in Holland a 16-year old won idols, sure he can "sing" but what a lousy song........

That's right.
As I understand you "got fired" ?
Have they given a reason why?

Ugh... my flat mates are shagging again. And it's only 17:15.
I really wouldn't mind if they weren't so damn loud! I feel like going in there and sticking gaffa tape over their mouths ;)

We're not allowed to talk about war in here, so I won't, but I am allowed to talk about my life, so...
There is a huge student protest today at my university. All students are asked to walk out of their classes today at 1pm.
I have to get down there now. People have already started showing up with signs, etc, but there is an unbelievable, palpable creepy calm in the air.
Areas of the hallways here, where TONS of students are gathered, are deadly quiet and it's very unsettling. It's like everyone, either way, is so affected by the current events that they're too distracted to gab. Bizarre.
I hope I don't get tear gassed. They (Montreal police) did that at the anti-Netenyahu rally this fall.
But I suspect this will be a very LOUD, but peaceful event. I just hope many people participate. McGill and other schools are walking over here for 1pm, and we're all going to the next school over tonight at 5 for another one.
Once again, just my thoughts on my day.

I didn't know they had a show like that Holland. American Idol is a spin-off of a UK show called Pop Idol, and I think there's a similar show for Canadians. There are a few very talented contestants (Clay!!!), a few mediocre, and some who are annoying in addition to being bad performers. Charles was voted off last night; I knew he wouldn't win first place, but I expected Julia to go first. Poor girl looks like she absolutely does not want to be there.

I had never seen American idol until a week or two ago when my mother got all excited about it and made me watch.
I think Clay is the only star-quality guy in the bunch. His performances are effortless, whereas the others chronically look as though they're trying too hard.
p.s.: 3 hours of marching in the pouring rain later, I'm SOAKED!

"neuheiltaght, sàmhach, foddey-oayllagh, bòidheach, iongantach"
Otherworldly, peaceful, intuitive, beautiful, wonderful/strange/surprising.
Basically I just picked some cool gaelic words out of an online dictionary and went with it. :D

Perhaps you all remember the student teacher in my art class who made a few of the girls in the class feel a bit uncomfortable? Well, I got some dirt on him...:p A guy I know went to a party at the ST's college, and asked about him. A few people who hang out with Mr. F were there and said, "Dude, he's always telling us about the hot girls in his art classes!" and the guy asked "IB art?" (that's the class I'm in, and all of us but one girl are 18+, thus it's not pedophelia), and the one of the guys said, "Yeah, but he said there's one freshman girl that gives him the biggest *insert vile slang term for erection* in his Art 1 class!" Um...ew. The girl's probably 14 or 15, and Mr. F is 23/4. Ugh. He disgusts me.
He grabbed my friend's butt last week, or so she says...
I spend my lunch period in the art room a lot, and sometimes I'm alone in the room with him. One day I'm going to call him out on his sexual harassment. *shudder*

What a scary guy! Be careful, Kat. I'd try to find someone to be in the art room w/you at lunch so you're not alone w/this guy. Remember, its better to be safe than sorry. Also, there are specific rules student teachers are required to follow. I don't have them in front of me right now, as its been almost a year since I completed my student teaching, however I'm sure he's in violation of more than one rule. Do yourself & the other girls a favor & do something about this guy! If you want more info on what you can do, send me a PM & I can provide details about what student teachers can & cannot do, as well as what you, as a student in this ST's classroom, can do about the problems. Good luck!

Stick it to the man, Kat. And in the good, job-taking-away sense. Not any other sense.

Today at the grocery store I was looking at the Silk, and an old man comes up and grabs a half gallon, and comments to me that it tastes better than cow's milk - that made me smile... and I couldn't agree more.. :)

hamtaro is so cute :)
Apple, i agree with the suggestion that you open another bank account and not tell her about it. as a parent she's supposed to provide you with the necessities of life, not steal all your money and make you go hungry. and yes she should definately pay for the vet bill. i'd transfer whatever money you have left into another secret account and if she asks for more or tries to withdraw any and can't just say "yeah well *cough* someone *cough* took all my hard earned money otherwise i'd help you out"

Hey OZ do you really think desire = suffering? I think desire = the only reason to get up in the morning (seriously).

Well, buddhists say that desire causes suffering, I'm not a Buddhist, so I dunno if I really agree or not. I was just in a rather unhappy mood when I put that there.

two things drive us the desire to gain pleasure and the overwhelming desire to avoid pain.
