Me and my big mouth….

When the mainframe gave the warning “you need to upload on Friday”, why was I the one to show it to everybody. Normally the manager takes care of it, but he had a motor accident.

So how did I manage to be the one that gets to alert a higher manager on this problem?

Why didn’t I keep my mouth shut so everybody wouldn’t be thinking that I would fix the problem ?

thanks for the positive vibes skylark. i tried calling back the toystore today, cause they hinted that i should call and check on progress, and if i were to do that, thursday would be the best day for it. but alas, owner chicky was busy and i just had to leave a message that i called. haven't heard back yet and they generally are there only til 2pm and it's now after 3. hopefully i'll hear from her soon.

that or maybe i'll hear from the freaky hippy wierdo store. i hope so, i could see myself working there and loving it.

Funk, where'd you get the tie-dye dress you mentioned before? i hate tie-dye t-shirts but i love tight little tie-dye dresses for some reason. with combat boots? ohhhh yeah

i need to revamp my wardrobe. the only clothes i've bought lately have been professional-type stuff for jobhunting or for working at the old job, shirts with collars and the like. blah. i even own a blazer, how'd that happen
and yet, nothing remotely hippy-ish which is totally the way i've been feeling lately. i like to dress how i feel, whether it's grungey, hippy-ish, goth-ish, or preppy

i'm wierd

I have to take this big standardized test for teachers on Saturday. I'm totally stressing! I hate standardized tests.

think of it this way, if you do really exceptionally well maybe it'll make it easier for you to find a new job in the fall. so kick butt on it but don't worry too much, it's just a test.

I am not happy. :( So I am going to rant.

I started my placement at a vet/wildlife rehab center, and things are not going as I had hoped.

First off, I show up Monday morning, and another girl from my program was there. At first I was happy, because it was someone I knew. Then the vet started yelling at me, demanding to know who I was, and why I was there. Turns out, they had forgotten all about me, lost all my papers, and then went and accepted this other girl. Even though I had contacted them a month before she did, they treated me like I was a huge inconvenience. For once in my life, I actually stood up for myself, and yelled back at the vet. Yay me! They realized that the mess up was there fault, so they were nice to me after that. Although they never apologized.

This place looks really nice. But only on the main floor, where the clients go. There's some birds, a pretty fountain, everything is clean and nice and bright. But then you go downstairs, and it is disgusting. It is cold, dark, dank, there is dirt everywhere. And they perform surgeries there! The surgery packs aren't done properly, so even though they are autoclaved, I am sure they are just swimming with bacteria.

I was running some fecal tests, and found hookworm eggs in one of the samples. I notified the vet tech, and he told me that unless I saw more than 4, then there wasn't a problem. That just doesn't sound right to me.

Then there is the whole wildlife rehab part, which I was really looking forward to. Turns out, that their idea of wildlife rehab is tiny little cages that hardly let any light into them. They had 2 overweight pigeons, and 2 woodpeckers. The vet didn't examine any of them. I don't even think he knew they were there. We released them yesterday, they've probably died by now.

And then there is the cat who came in for grooming and developed breathing difficulties. We couldn't find the vet, and the vet tech kept going upstairs. Leaving me, 2 highschool students, and a clean-up person in charge. I monitored the respiration rate, heart rate and temperature, but that's all I could do. This cat had a temperature of 90.5 F (normal cat temp is 101.5)! Finally the vet came down, took a quick look at the cat, yelled at me because I don't know how to convert F to C in my head, then left. 20 minutes later, they sent the cat home with his owners. I sure hope that they took that cat to another vet.

Anyway, I could go on and on about how much this place sucks. I really really want to report them, but don't know who to contact.

I am tired, and upset, and pissed off. I was really looking forward to this placement.

SilverC maybe you can start by contacting the local SPCA and letting them know what's going down, and ask them if there is someone else you can get in touch with as well. if there's anyone in the area that handles these sorts of things, the SPCA should know of them.

it's too bad the No-Kill shelter never got set up in that town. they had a website but it seems to not be there anymore, they had been running it out of their home and taking donations towards setting up the shelter. if i'd realized earlier on that you're in that area i would have helped you get in contact with them.
is it too late to change placement?

oh i found it, the url changed is all. i'll PM it to you!!

Thanks guys. :) I am feeling a bit better, but just wait until tomorrow when I have to go back! It's too late to change placement, or else I definately would. I have to do 60 hours, and have already done 24. So if I keep doing 8 hour days, I should only have 4 and a half shifts left.

I think I will contact the SPCA, I would really feel better if someone went in and checked things out. I really don't know if this is how all vets work. I certainly hope not. The vet I volunteered at last term was nice and clean and organized (thank goodness, because they are my vet). So coming to this place was quite the shock.

From now on, I am definately going to ask to see the whole facility before I bring my animals anywhere. I bet if the clients knew what went on behind the scenes, they wouldn't be very happy.

that's a good idea *makes a mental note to demand a tour next time kitty goes in*

but really, even if it's too late to switch, you could see if that organization i mentioned needs any help. maybe spending time with a better place will help you feel better and put that rotten vet out of your mind. really i think they mostly need donations, money, food, toys, leashes etc. i bought a ton of stuff to bring to them and then didn't have a chance to go before i moved, now i have a bag full of food dishes in my closet
