You're very welcome. Do you also write poettes (that's a small poem, right?) ;) about pizza sauce, applesauce, or salad dressing? Can I have a Daily Gazumper Poem delivered to me? Naw, they can't all be that funny. :/

It is such a beautiful day, today.
The sun is shining, there's a light breeze, and those abominably malodorous trees the landscapers around here seem to favor are finally getting out of the flowering stage and into the leafy stage - which means the odor will be gone soon. ^^;;
I drove to work with my window down, blaring Japanese techno, and I almost felt normal.

I drove to work with my window down, too, and I was blaring oldies. I felt almost parental.

i've heard the best way to get ticks off is to heat up a thin metal object like a nail file, with a lighter til it's very hot, and slide it underneath the tick's belly, it should let go immediately. or douse it with kerosene or nail polish removes, since they breathe through holes in their shell this suffocates them at least enough that they let go.
if you just yank 'em out you risk leaving pieces behind to cause infection.

oh thanks for the advice Robert and 1vegan, but they fired me today so it's moot i guess.
we were always under strict orders to never phone a head office person unless the store were on fire. but i do remember his email address and am thinking of emailing him a little later on. should probably wait til i'm cooled down a little cause if i do it now i might tell him off

LF,
Aww, I'm so sorry! Were you fired because of the money incident or for calling the head office person? I wasn't sure from your post whether you did call that person or not.
Remind me again what happened with that toy store you wanted to work at?

i was kinda expecting it but was upset nonetheless. i grabbed my stuff and bolted out of there pretty quick otherwise i may have told my manager to go &%$# herself. i'm 100% positive that she took that money, for whatever purpose doesn't matter.
but the excuse they gave me was "oh it's not just that, they say your sales are too slow too"
which is BS because when i started i was told repeatedly that my quota was not in effect until i'd been there 2 months.
so like gee dont worry about making your quota cause you're new, but if you don't they'll fire you anyway. ????

That reaaaaaaally stinks, LF. At least they're behind you now, right?
What kind of work do you like to do?

no i didn't call him. i'm probably going to go back to the toy store on tuesday (the day the owner is usually there) and let them know i'm available once again. but i'll probably hit the pavement monday morning, maybe even tomorrow if i feel up to it. i can't go months without a job this time, if i don't find something fast i don't know what will happen. luckily i still have a paycheque coming tuesday and 2 comission cheques the following 2 weeks, so i won't be totally without money if i start a job mid pay period again and have to wait 3 weeks for a pay.

Have you told your boyfriend yet?
LadyFaile
March 27th, 2003, 07:09 PM
what kind of work i like is still a mystery to me. i sure didn't like this one anyway. i shouldn't be too heartbroken cause i didn't really want the job to begin with and planned to look for something more flexible in the summer anyways.
but i don't know where to look now. i think i'll check back with the health food store but other than that i'm out of ideas

no he's at work still. he'll figure it out when he comes in the door and sees all my stuff in the entrance. i warned him it might happen over this deposit thing though.
i like how they lied to me though. when i got there today there was a help wanted sign on the window already. the manager said it was because they're hiring another person to do outside sales. they're just full of BS about everything

Sometimes it scares me more to start something related to what I want to do than it does to start something unrelated. Reason being that if I fail at the unrelated thing, well, it wasn't what I wanted to do, anyway.
What sorts of businesses are in your town? Just start listing everything in the phone book and we VBers will put our heads together!

i dunno, i think i'd like something in data entry or administration because i like to be behind the scenes and work with computers. i was never right for sales, i'm not perky, i'm just not, and can't be. only reason i wanted to get sales experience is cause you pretty much need it on a resume to get any good job these days, plus i was hoping to get manager experience as well.
if my manager had gone into outside sales like she was hoping, they'd have hired another rep and promoted someone to take her place, likely me. oh well.
in any case i don't think there's much work in data entry around here

I'm sorry to hear about that, LF.
I hope you're able to find something else soon!
Maybe the toy store will be an option, this time. It's cliche, but usually when one door closes, another opens. I try to stick to that belief, although it's hard sometimes, when you're focusing so intently on the closed door (as I have been, lately).
So here's to open doors, ne? ^^

yeah, i'm hoping. that didn't work for me last time though. it seems every time i leave a job i end up unemployed for months at a time. i'm hoping to break that cycle this time, i can't survive off the $14 in my bank account.

There are a lot of threads I wanted to reply to today, but work is keeping me busy and I can only do it in little bits at a time.
Work interfering with VB...such a pity. ^_~

I think I'd be talking to someone about wrongful termination. This could affect you in future. Many places these days do background checks even to just see if you're "neglecting" to include some formwer employer on your work history. As soon as they run across this place, there's a chance you could get a crap reference, a very bad one in fact.
You might want to visit your local HRDC office and make an appointment with someone there. At the very least, I'd request an investigation into this place by HRDC. I'd be steamed to no end. Take no crap from these people, LF.

wooo - I discovered something new about VB today! :D
I accidentally clicked on the number showing how many replies there were to a thread and so I found that it shows who's posted in that thread and how many times.. how come no one told me about this feature before?? ;)
and so I find I'm one of the top posters in the slut thread *g*

think so Robert? but i'd only been there a month and a 1/2, so i was technically still under 'probation' therefore there may not be anything i can do. i talked to my mom though and she said i should call the labour board to see if anything can be done, at least maybe to note something on my record that i was unfairly terminated despite it being during probation. i dunno. i'll try calling tomorrow though since i'll be home anyway (grr). she also suggested i go to the hrdc office here and apply for EI and explain to them what happened.
would they actually do anything even though i was there under 3 months?
and just how do you always know so much about this stuff anyways? ;)
but yes, i've written out point form what i'm emailing to headofficeprick tomorrow so i don't leave anything out. my brother said i should try not to whine too much about the manager's behaviour and just stick to the topic at hand or it'll look like i'm just out to get her in trouble (naaaah, me? ;))
is there some way for a past employer to affect what shows up on my record, like say he decides ok i didn't take the money and wasn't treated fairly but what's done is done, can he change the records to not show all that?
Robert

LF: I know about this because I worked in the Ontario labour force and have friends and relatives who work in various HRDC offices in several provinces. I have an aunt who is also regional director of HRDC in another province.
There's always some lowlife willing to let someone else take the rap for somethng he or she has done.
Keep copies of all your correspondence, including keeping records of conversions you have with people (dates, phone numbers, time of day, and the person to whom you spoke).
Probation or not, they've accused you of a serious crime. It's a matter of principle more than anything else. And yes, it can go on your "record" with the employer. Wrongful dismissal should not be tolerated, so don't let them do it. In many cases, employers have contracted the services of an outside investigation company to conduct background searches on potential candidates for employment with their company. This could come back to haunt you in future employment opportunities if that incident has not been contested and remains part of a record somewhere.
It was a good suggestion about the labour board, but also check out the HRDC and even maybe write the president of the company directly.
When it comes to actual letters, send them registered mail. This gives you a paper trail and a receipt.
Good luck and, remember, you did nothing wrong. It's game on... kick some butt.
