It reminded me of that thing 'would you screw with any guy for $50'. No. Would you for $2,000000. Yes. So we know what you are, it's just the price we're haggling over.
Sorry.
If you were STARVING it would be different, but being hard up is a state most of us are in all the time and fur crosses the line. I think you might regret it if you do, and feel proud of yourself if you don't do it.

No judgement.
When I was unemployed, and agency offered me a job as “computer maintenance whatever”, at a company that makes chemicals.
I refused, explained that I would not work for such a company and the woman of the agency was stunned.
Boy, It still feels so good……:)

Got a large chunk of survey money in the mail the last couple days and shipping it over to the wife today. Basically a free $300 shopping spree for her. We've been budgeting hard for our vacation this summer so this was very exciting for her. Already have all of Gav's clothes and all I need is a thong. Anyway, we're off to the mall today to get her little hottie summer clothes! We never get to splurge like this anymore so its gonna be fun!!
Then taking "Buzz" to see Toy Story on ice tonight. He is gonna love this...A rambling KC......

Funk,
Working with food really stinks. At least it has so far for me. When I worked in dietary at a nursing home, I was expected to cut up meat for residents who couldn't do it themselves, I had to make sandwiches when asked (with gloves on), and I knew if I had developed an active conscience about those things, I would have been kicked out the door faster than Mario Andretti drives.
I WANT TO LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE I DON'T HAVE TO COMPROMISE TO SURVIVE!!!!

hi all, been tough to get online lately but my manager told me to leave early today because it's so dead. i know she secretly just wants me to go so if anyone comes in the sale goes to her automatically, but really she needs the comission more than i do so i pretend not to let on that i know that "ohh thanks, yeah i'd love to take off early thanks for offering (pfft)"
but i'm really sorta upset right now cause the head office and my manager all think i stole or misplaced money on friday. i distinctly remember her leaving early and saying "i'm depositing x amount of cash, make sure you enter it into the books" which i did
but i don't remember her filling out a deposit slip. next day i did my deposit and noticed friday's wasn't filled out in the deposit book but i just shrugged it off thinking she must've entered it into one of the other books by mistake cause she was in a hurry when she left. i think she just didn't fill one out at all. so now our books say x amount was deposited but the bank says none was. so they all think it was me and she's arguing that she never told me she was doing the deposit that day. unfortunately because she left early and i'm the one who closed off the books it makes it pretty easy for them to point the finger at me.
and i can't really accuse my manager of stealing. i'm sure she didn't intend to, and probably has this cash sitting around somewhere in a pocket or something totally forgotten. worse part is we didn't even have any envelopes left so she just took loose cash in her pocket so if she does have it in her wallet she probably will argue that it's not the store's cash since it's not in an envelope.
*sigh* i just hope they don't fire me or write me up or something because of something i didn't do. there's absolutely no way to prove my innocence unless she finds the cash and comes forward with it.
on the plus side we got a new computer there today with highspeed internet and tomorrow a radio station is doing one of those "live on location" bits in the store which will hopefully get us more sales

Oh, I HATE that kind of thing. I had someone accuse me falsly of things in the past, and because of internal politics I had no way to defend myself. Now, because of someone else's malice I have a "been fired" on my record, for stupid reasons and it SUCKS.
I really hope that doesn't happen to you.
Maybe it would be in your interest to take it upon yourself to call the next person up in the chain, and have a meeting with them to explain the situation. You could ask them to keep it confident (risky I know) but it might make you look honest and interested in your position there, before things get out of hand. Be sure to say: "I guess I should have confirmed the deposit before writing it in, but I'm new and I assumed that was how it's done. I will be careful of that in future, but in the meantime, I assure you I did nothing dishonest."
I know sometimes you're stuck in a situation like that, but at least you would have given it your best shot.
I've had a good day so far today. I just found out I'm getting lots of word of mouth for my Interpretext company, and have a new client!! Someone wants me to work at the Aids clinic in montreal for a conference, and a new audiologist at one of my existing clients wants me for a job in two weeks as well.
Also, a friend just found out yesterday that he's going for his cochlear implant surgery next tuesday (months early!) and he's thrilled! I'm so happy for him.
THEN, (lol) I got to school and went into the cafeteria thingy and they were having mexican food day. So not only did I get a tasty bean taco platter for lunch, but I also got to watch the poor employees, forced to wear Sombreros and blanket-y thingies in celebration of mexican food day, bumping into each other like bumper cars as they made my lunch.
I know I shouldn't laugh -the poor guys! but it was like something out of a sitcom. The corridor they work in is only about the size of a sombrero anyway, so they kept turning around and whacking each other in the head, and doing the limbo to get around one another, and generally swearing a lot, all to the tune of some very loud and offensive mexican musak.
It was really funny.

At least my class has music & then computer lab time this afternoon!

So far I'm thinking I won't do it.
I really appreciate everyone's advice BTW. I know it's a very touchy subject, (in fact, I was not even going to mention it here) but I'm glad we were able to discuss it in a level-headed manner, and without flaming.
It's definitely a much easier decision when you think of it in terms of "how much are your morals worth". The whole modelling thing alone is very degrading, and that's why I haven't done it for a while, let alone for an industry like that.
As an interesting aside, the one time I did work for this show, I ended up having some very interesting conversations with my bosses. As I said, they were super nice, and when they found out I was vegan they said: ohhhh. So you probably think we're just horrible, don't you? And we ended up having a very respectful and informative conversation about AR...
I sort of treated it like a 'reconaissance mission' to the other side, so to speak. I'm not a super AR kind of person, but I do believe in avoiding unneccessary suffering, and it was bizarre to hear their perpectives.
Most of it was very ignorant, IMO, but I had to conceed them a few points: for example, while I respect AR, I also repect the rights of peoples to their traditional way of life. So, they asked me, what about the inuit and aboriginal groups who hunt? Some of them sold their pelts at that show, or provided to companies showing there...
I don't wanna debate it here (we can start another thread if you want) but, as an anthropologist that issue is far more unclear to me. To prohibit those groups from hunting is to completely rip apart the fabric of their society, and basically obliterate them as a people...
Actually the grossest was the children's pro-fur propaganda at the Canadian Fur Council booth... Colourful cartoons with happy animal mascots... ewwwww.
Anyway. Enough of this discussion in here. I don't mean to offend anyone, I can move this post or delete it, if you'd like.

I was not sure if I should eat the popcorn, as I felt guilty about the popcorn, but I decided regardless to get out the popcorn. Then I cooked the popcorn. Then I burnt the popcorn. Now I'm mad at the popcorn. I'd make another bag of popcorn, but I'm too convinced it was a sign that I shouldn't eat any popcorn, so now I'm just thinking about popcorn, and pissed off that I missed my chance at popcorn.

Today at Borders I was looking through the metaphysical book section, and I found a box of sticks with celtic symbols carved on them .. for $25! unreal.
Lemme go find a bunch of stick in the back yard and carve a bunch of random runes on them, write a companion book BSing what it all means, and then I can be rich!

Av,
I think it means that you and the popcorn need to have an open discussion. You must act smarter than your food, no?

haha i know people who'd buy that crap. hmm wait maybe i'm one of them
Av, thanks, actually the head office big-shot called to yell at me about it today and said he'd call back at the end of the day to give me time to think back and figure out what happened, but then my manager said i could leave early. she said if he called back for me that she'd give him my cell number but he never called so i'm assuming i'll hear from him tomorrow morning instead. lovely. anyways he's an arse but i'm going to explain everything i remember about the incident, but i'll make sure to word it so that he knows i'm not trying to accuse my manager of swiping the cash, cause i'm not. i'll try to work in what you suggested as well. in fact i think i want to suggest to the manager that we make a chart to mark down the deposit amount and name of who deposited it to keep track of it all. as it is we have a little deposit slip book thingy but the situation with friday's deposit is that the slip was not filled out, hence there's no record of anyone doing the deposit at all. if we get in the habit of filling out a chart every day which we already do for so many other things, we'll be less likely to run into this again. i'm going to mention it to big shot loser guy as well that way if he thinks it's a good idea i'm sure he'll demand it from now on and therefore it's obvious i made an effort to improve the way we handle our cash, so they might be less quick to accuse me. maybe.
the head office people are all pricks. we're supposed to vote for one to win a trip to cuba, but the only one that's nice and friendly and helpful has said if he wins he's not going anyways so it's a wasted vote. i might just not vote cause nobody else deserves it IMO
as for the fur thing, that whole "if i don't do it someone else will" perspective really doesn't do it for me, cause i mean i could just as easily say "gee if i don't eat this big slab of beef someone else will, so i may as well just go for it" but i'm not about to do that and i'm sure nobody else here would either (not including the omni members of course) cause we all know it goes much deeper than that
