Gotchya. Yeah, I'm familiar with Buddhism's notion of Dukkha and Tanha, and I like it fine, myself, but I don't agree with it. Oh well.

Personally, I lean more towards the Epicurean hedonic angle in that I believe desire is necessary. I think that we desire pleasure whether we have it or not, so when he have it, it's harder to find new and better ways to pleasure ourselves, which leads to hyperhedonism (bad). So lacking pleasure experience, suffering, if you will, is a more ideal position from which to seek pleasure (hey, when you're really hungry, it's easier to find something appetizing, right?). But of course, an extreme lack of pleasure is bad: Sometimes people are just too depressed to seek/recognize pleasure (also bad). So (in an ironically-buddhist way) it is the middle way between the two that we must live for. You have to seek pleasure just as much as you accept pain. That's my $.02 on the metter, at least!

As I understand you "got fired" ?
Have they given a reason why?

I'm not sure SD saw your post. Technically I think she got laid off which usually means that there's not enough work and too many people or that they have to cut down on people in order to save money. I'm guessing it's the second one. It's pretty much the same as getting fired except when you're laid off it's because the company had to let you go and not because of anything you did wrong.

I'm sooo tired this morning. I had to get up to drive Trev to work on my day off, and I didn't get enough sleep last night, and now I can't get back to snooze-land cause the news is on, and it sucks. :(

Plus I'm trying to get a doctors appointment cause I smashed my hand on something a month ago, and my finger still hurts and it's getting worse and I'm a piano player so I want to get it xrayed cause people seem to think I may have cracked my bone- but the line is busy busy busy!!! :(

Still perplexed by the Gaelic words Av, apart from Sámhach (which means gentle or smoothly/softly), I recognise none of the others. I wonder if they are Scots Gaelic or Manx? What site did you pull them from?

Some weird site. They might well be Scots Gael. I have no idea. I'll find the site again. (McFarlane's??)

I'l be nuking that sig soon anyway.

1Vegan, right now there is a major budget crisis in the area of education. Many teachers are currently being laid off, as there is not enough money to pay us. We currently have something called "class size reduction" in place, which mandates that in grades kinder-3rd there can be no more than 20 students per teacher. However, after this school year there will no longer be funding to allow for that. Class sizes at these grade levels are increasing to 30 students...meaning, among other things, that less teachers will be needed. Included in the budget cuts is the elimination of resource teachers, those who pull students out for math, reading, & the like. Administrators are also being eliminated. Since it takes more senority to be a Resource teacher or administrator, those people, rather than being laid off completely, are being moved back to the classrooms. Being a first year teacher I am lowest on the todem (sp?) pole, hence I have been laid off. To date, our school district has laid off at least 150 people, & that number is growing everyday. So, there you have, the yucky details of the lives of teachers. Just so you all know, thousands of teachers in California are being laid off this year.

Awfully quiet around here tonight...

Michael sings...

First time you feel it, it might make you sad
Next time you feel it it might make you mad
But you'll be glad baby when you've found
that's the power makes the world go'round

Someone on another board had this in their signature, I thought it was funny. :D

Confucious' brother Joe says "Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a day.

Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life."

Nope, I spent another Friday night watching Law & Order. Yesterday's highlight was getting my xmas present from my sister. It's a t-shirt with a picture of Darth Vader and it says, "Who's your daddy?" :vebo:

*Pffttt!* Avalon? Party? I think not!

Actually, as I have mentioned before, I am a hermit, and thus I very seldom party. I get drunk, or even consume any alcoholic beverages, only about 2-3 times per year. Last night was not one of them.

We went out for dinner, to a "Mikes" restaurant, of all things... IT was actually quite good. I had potato skins, sans bacon, that were delightful. Haven't had those in a while.

The waiter was cute. I flirted with him. He flirted back. :tame:

Then, after gifts (I decided I would owe Andrew his present, and it would be either a lapdance, or a fish. In the end I settled for a fish NAMED 'Lapdance'...) they all wanted to go out for Bubble Tea ( *POUT!!*). I SO wanted to go, as Bubble Tea is about my favourite thing in the world, but I had to pick Trevor up from his mum's and bring him home.

(His truck is still not fixed, so we're car jugglin').

Anyway. So basically I had tater skins and no bubble tea, and today I feel like sh*t.

I think the feelin ill thing has more to do with having marched in the rain the other day, and then sat in wet cold shoes all day.

Does that stuff work? I never know. There are so many on the shelf. It's like my worst nightmare. I'm so friggin' indecisive. Damned perfectionism: "but what if I buy the wrong one?? ehhhhhhh"

I have much sinus stuffage, and back-of-throat-nasal-leakage,and headachiness, and back soreness, fever and general grumpy discomfort.

Whereas most of that crap seemed to be for coughs.

I also think I ate some bad tofu tonight, as in 'too damned old, from back of fridge' and now I feel sick to my stomach too. Blah.

I am sitting here wishing that my kids were little again...my youngest is about to lose his first tooth.

I think that I will go have a glass of wine and a tofu sandwich, then watch SNL with the husband.

My oldest is out on the town...my "big boys" are entertaining a gang of noisy teens upstairs. My "babies" are in cartoonland on my bed. Played in the dirt today, now they are all clean and snugged up. Happy to be out of school for a week.

We are painting our dining room over spring break...not sure what color...

have a good night everyone.
