So I already have a job lined up for the summer but I realize that I probably won't be able to pay first and last month's rent plus security deposit. So there goes that. The worst part is, my mother can't get me to my job (her house is in a remote area), so I'll most likely have to quit or just get fired. So I'll have no job and no apartment. Yay!

This is a potentially evil suggestion, but can you get a credit card? Or do you have one already? If you can get one, you can put your rent on that, then slowly pay it off and either keep the card for emergencies, or rip it up and cancel it.

As for the job, I hope that works out.

That is true. You could do it on a credit card - I got mine with no credit to speak of and it had a $600 limit, which would cover your rent.

I didn't even know you could do that.

update, my friend is unable to live with me for various unfair reasons...so I will just wait until the summer is over, save up money, and get an apartment alone. :(

haha, I never thought anyone would bump this up...

I did find a place, but never moved in due to the fact that there was no phone line, my friend and I would have to share a room, there was a weird gas smell coming from the stove, and the girl upstairs (who we did know about) had a boyfriend (who we did not know about). All in all, very uncool.

I've decided against getting an apartment this summer. Who knows what my friend's doing anyway--she might be moving away. I'll just wait until the fall and see what happens. Maybe I'll rent a room in a house somewhere.

I rented a room in a house before and it was a very pleasent experience. Where I went to school, everybody shared a room. With one or two other people because housing was (still is) expensive there. By renting a room in a house, I was able to have my own room. This makes such a huge difference! It was cheaper to go this route too.

The house was about 2 miles from the school so I was able to bike there or take the bus and an older retired guy was the one to rent the rooms. There were two other people my age there who rented out other rooms. They both worked a lot and attended the school so it worked out because it was nice and quiet.

If you do do this, don't forget to label your food in the fridge though because I did notice a problem with our food being gone. :)

Good luck! I hope the job thing works itself out too.

I have lived with strangers enough that, as good as my intentions are, bad things always seem to happen.

I still have my job. I have decided to rent a (studio) apartment in the fall.
