We sell wheat grass juice in the cafe I run... it is one of the single best things you can do for your body (after drinking lots of water, exercise, and lots of rest). It contains lots of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, and chlorophyll. The Ph level of the chlorophyl is almost exactly the same as human blood which aids in the absorption of the nutrients. I drink it almost every day, and I can say with no reservation whatsoever, that once you drink it, your body will thank you. Wonderful wonderful stuff.
It helps in detoxification. the cleaner your system is, the sweeter the juice tastes. it contains live active enzymes (a big deal for raw foodists, but debatable in their effectiveness...). There's something really nice about consuming something you know is living and healthy! it's all about the new growth from the seed. the sprouted goodness. the energy of living food. I swear by the stuff.
Check out a book called "The Wheatgrass Book" by Anne Wigmore. it says it much better than I can...

is wheat grass really wheat?
if so, could people with wheat allergies and sensitivities consume it?

yes it is really wheat. We use hard red wheat berries, soak them, sprout them in a dark room for three days, then sow them on a bed of soil mixed with compost and cinder (a fine gravel from dormant volcanos), and grow in a sunny location for 10 days. water every day, and screen the area in to keep the birds out (they love those juicy sprouted wheat berries!).
I don't know if people with wheat sensitivities have problems with wheatgrass. I'll need to check with our experts on that. I can talk to our grower on Monday.
The problem with growing it at home, is the juicing. the grass by itself is largely indigestible. to need to extract the juice somehow. there are juicers designed specifically for wheatgrass. or a Champion juicer (or any auger style)will work. a centrifigul juicer (like a juiceman or similar) will NOT work well. Some people use a mortar and pestle to grind the juice, but that sounds like a lot of work. The hand-crank wheatgrass juicers are surprisingly expensive for what they are (up to 100 dollars! used, I've seen them for like 25...) and the electric ones run up to $350!! but if you have a juicer already, you're in business!!!
like I say to everyone who orders a shot of the green goodness, "To your health!"

I've grown it for my cat. It sprouts very quickly. And my cat loves it. I haven't juiced it yet, though.

I've had people with wheat allergies come into my work that can't drink wheat grass juice.
WonderRandy, what do you think of Naked Juice's Green Machine? I love that stuff. :)

Oh, it is so yummy! It has wheat grass in it as well as spirulina, chlorella, bananas, blue green algae ( I think )....and other stuff I can't remember. It mostly taste like banana and I feel good knowing I'm eating/drinking something that's just so good for me.

So how does your body react to this stuff?? I just order some seeds of the internet, I live in an apt. what is the best way to go about doing this. I also have a Jack lalanne's power juicer - will wheat grass work for this? Please respond with any advice or info.

you really need a special juicer for wheatgrass... some people have had good luck with a mortar and pestle...
they make simple manual juicers that work well... you can often find them used, as people will buy them, and then give up on the process...
your body will love you for it. start off slow, as the high concentration of natural sugars can cause nausea on an empty stomach.

WonderRandy,
Thanks for the info. So I should get a different jucier you think? Also how should I start growing this stuff in my apt? And how much wheat grass at first, is too much??
