Does anyone own one? Are they incredibly cheesy? I am reading up about them on Amazon.com, but I'd love some VB input :D

The thought of sitting through a regular aerobic tape bores me to tears. I am thinking that even though I have a lot of weight to lose, and may tire easily, at least it would be more fun if I'm sweating to hip hop! :nana:

I've never tried a hip-hop workout tape, but in my hip hop classes we used to use the videos put out by various choreographers as warm-up. Yeah, they're cheesy, but still pretty fun. They seem to talk down to the viewer, as if they think anyone watching the tape must be a preteen or something.

I say go for it, if it's something that will hold your attention. I have to confess, I'm a huge fan of Paula Abdul's workout tapes. That is some fun s***.

My favorite workout DVD is the New York Ballet series. They're not terribly exciting, though.

consider taking actual classes. they're more fun, usually more challenging, and more motivating. If you paid in advance for X number of classes and you know you have them for X weeks, you're more likely to 'stick with it' than if you just buy a DVD which can easily sit by your TV ad infinitum. i know a lot of people who own a number of exercise dvds and rarely, if ever, use them. Yet, sign up for a class, and they're there! so, it helps!

I thought about it...but I am just so uncoordinated I'd be very uncomfortable in a class full of people :worried:

VeganKat I forgot all about Paula Abdul's tapes!
 I still have a tape from Alyssa Milano called Teen Steam. Oh boy

I've done a few tapes in PE class...chessy? yes...but we were entertained by them. The harder ones give you a good workout too (we did them with heart rate moniters on). I wouldn't want to do a class either because if takes me about 5 reps to finally realize whatever move the video is doing!

I usually check out exercise videos from the library. Some of them are pretty cheesy, but I've found quite a few I really like. I don't pay any money and it offers me a variety to my workout. When I'm bored with a video, I just go back to the library and check out more!

if you take a beginners class, it's likely that everyone in there is uncoordinated. so, i wouldn't worry about it. you learn over time.

i've never rock climbed before either, and i don't know how to do the moves. yet, i go to a rock gym instead of trying to learn by watching tv.

Well I am seriously considering this class: Stretch & Sculpt (http://www.discoverycenter.cc/classes/il1710.htm)

or this one: Kardio-Kickboxing (http://www.discoverycenter.cc/classes/il1805.htm)

Both seem pretty fun and safe for beginners. I am thinking since they are only 6wks/6classes it won't be so bad if I hate it. Hopefully I will like it :)

I took a cardio kickboxing class and also tried a video from the library. It was a lot of fun. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too.
