i havnt ran in anything but new balance for about 6 years now, and to be honest i dont even know if they have leather on them or not. ive actually hurt myself running in cheap shoes, so i wouldnt buy a lower quality shoe just because its vegan... so does anyone know a good quality running shoe that doesnt have leather on it?

Nearly all the running shoes I've seen don't have any leather.

There are tons of New Balance varieties that are man made. If you do a search here at VB...you'll find numerous old threads on running shoes, and specifically New Balance. There's a list somewhere amidst those threads (albeit an older one) of which styles are synthetic, but really you just have to look at the tag. You can even find out which ones are made in the US or in China, et. al.

So, you have to do some searching, but you can find the info if you want to stay with NB. Mine have treated me very well..I'm just getting ready to retire another pair.

Yup, it's really easy to find synthetic New Balance shoes (there are actually very few NB running shoes that are leather).

I had a synthetic pair of Saucony (I think thats the right spelling) that I absolutely loved! They are, in my opinion, a littler roomier/more cushiony than the New Balance, and they held up for more mileage. If you go shoe shopping you will find that there are quite a few synthetic shoes- just check the tongues. I'm not vegan but I still usually buy vegan shoes, because they aren't that hard to find. Good luck.

Salomon...I've got some trail-runners...pretty sure they're vegan-friendly...

Go to veganessentials.com, and that'll give you a good database to look for (if you don't purchase online) :)

:nigel: Cheers and happy running!

Barring child labor issues, what's wrong with more popular brands like Nike and Addidas? (I know this is a funny question, coming from the official vegan Nazi.)

I think New Balance does the best job of catering to people with wide/narrow feet, who supinate/pronate or who have flat/high arches. The service in their stores is outstanding, the measure both feet, measure width, ask questions about what you will be doing with the shoes, and make suggestions based on your foot type.

I switched from k-swiss to new balance 11 years ago and haven't used anything else since, this was before any vegan or child labor issues mattered to me.

Really? I was under the impression that they were the ghetto brand. Must be due to consumerism brain washing.

I know most about tennis shoes but k-swiss, new balance, nike, and addidas are the most popular brands are all run 80-120 dollars. I have seen some really cheap new balance shoes at department stores and stuff, they seem to sell different stuff at their stores and through department stores. 80% of american tennis players seem to use nike/reebok/addidas, I think that is due to advertising. K-swiss and new balance both have really dedicated followings, it seems new balance is more popular among runners and walkers.

Personally, I highly recommend both the quality of new balance stores and the quality of service in their retail stores, which I think is best in the business (athletic shoes).

I wear Asics. They last a long time, and are really comfortable for running.

I recently went to a New Balance store for walking shoes. They were great. They knew exactly which ones had leather and acted as if that was a common question for them. They knew which were good for low or high arch and they got me a narrow width which most places don't have.

Asics is where it's at. That's what I've been wearing for the past 3 years... for running AND every day activities. They are just awesome shoes.
