I have a question - I have no idea where to find 'jerky' in the grocery store. I have tried to find it before -usually half heartedly- since it is not on my 'list' but I would love to try some if I just ran into it.

What is it usually near?

At fred meyer/kroger/safeway it would be in the natural section. At Whole Foods it tends to be near the deli but I would ask there since they definately don't have a set floor plan. Food Fight! has 8 feet of jerky but that is only in Portland.

I tried the shiitake primal strip recently, not a big fan, probably won't buy it again. Tofurky Jurky for me!

I love primal strips. My favorite flavors are the Thai peanut and the lime something or other.

I have never seen jerky of any kind at whole foods market, which I always thought was odd. I'll have to ask next time.

They usually have it. I've been several times and it's almost impossible to find. The Tofurky Jurky was either in with the chips or cookies, I think it was the chips. The Primal Strips were hanging over the cheese/milk refrigerator section.

Yes, they're not together, and they're in odd places. At our Whole Foods, the Tofurkey Jerky is usually (but not always) near the nutrition bars, while the Primal Strips are near the pre-packaged deli cases.

They used to sell primal strips at my climbing gym, and they were SO good! I was sad when they stopped selling them, and I don't know where to find them. They're actually the only veggie jerky I've tried, I'm scared that other kinds will be like real beef jerky, which looks like it tastes like old leather.

Primal Strips are great, but they're not really jerky.

Seitan Mesquite Lime and Soy Texas BBQ for me. The Mesquite Lime actually looks and tastes kind of like chicken, IMO. I was never a really big jerky fan to begin with. I just like the Primal Strips for their own destinctive tastiness.

I never cared for jerky either, and I think that both the Primal Strips and Tofurkey Jerky are far superior to the "real" thing. That being said, I think the Tofurkey has more of the consistency of "real" jerky.

What's the consistency of the Tofurky Jerky? They look so hard. I'm always thinking that I might pull out a filling in my teeth trying to eat one of those things. That's what I like about the Primal Strips. They're chewy, but they're kind of soft too. I don't really remember meat jerky. It's been years since I had any, long before I stopped eating meat altogether.

I didn't care for Tofurky Jurky. Before I tried primal strips I used to like stonewall's Jerquee.

:up: I don't care for the Tofurky stuff (too sweet) or Primal Strips (too sweet *and* too wet/sticky). I like the texture of the Stonewall's, but other than the Original Wild don't care for the taste. I don't understand why so many of these products are sweetened like candy.
