I am quite sure that to a lot of you, it doesn't seem far, but I have never been a jogger, let alone a runner.
However, I am determined to do this either this year (in june) or next year as it if for charity.
I am a big girl, but I am fit,...just not in terms of running haha.
So, how the heck do I go about training to run this distance?
~I might add that I have a slight phobia of treadmills, so I'll be trying to run/jog in an urban area.

Go to www.coolrunning.com
Look at their couch potateo to 5k plan. Lots of people do it over there and it works. They also have support forums.

find a good place to run thats similar to the terrain you will be running. with your car (or other measuring device) measure out distances and start running. start at a level that is just enough to exhaust your muscles, and the day after do light exercise. then when youre comfortable with that distance, increase your distance, and get yourself upto running as close to/farther than 5k each day. actually i am in the process of training for a 5k. good luck :-)

Great to see another runner in the making! My only advice would be to take it slowly. Don't increase your mileage by more than 10% per week, and take days off when you need them. I've started running after long layoffs several times, and when I've upped my mileage too fast, I've paid for it with major injuries (achilles tendonitis and awful shin splints). When I started running again 2 years ago, I made a point of not overdoing it, and it's paid off. Good luck!
