My dd is 4 years old and has the hair of a 4 month old. I was never too concerned before but lately it has got me more worried. Her father has curly hair and mine is very straight, this could be one reason for the stunted growth. My hair also was very slow to grow when I was young, but I did have a lot more hair at 4 than she has. In fact all children do her age. I'm fine with her having slow hair growth as long as it is not a serious condition.
Could it possibly be a vitamin/Mineral defiency?
Please help. Anyone experience this? Anyone know what could cause this?
Thanks!

if yours was slow to grow at that age too i'd say it's probably just genetics and nothing to worry about. i think hair-related stuff runs on the mother's side (baldness etc) so that's probably it. but just in case it's diet related maybe you should go over her diet and make sure she's getting enough of everything, maybe you can give her one of those fortified drinks they make for toddlers and see if it helps.
but above all, when in doubt see a doctor

I know a 4 year old who has never had a hair cut because she hasn't had it grow long enough yet. Its not terribly uncommon - her mother also has very straight, very thin hair. but talk to your doctor, just to make sure. Have him give her a blood test to make sure all her nutrient levels are good.

Thanks for the replies! What lacking nutrient would cause stunted hair growth???? She is so healthy otherwise. She is growing very well and is extremly tall for her age. I give her a multi once and awhile (maybe once a week)- maybe I should give one more. I will probably bring her to the doctors if I don't see any improvement soon. :( I wish I didn't have to make a big deal out of this with her because short hair is beautiful, but if her health is comprised somehow I want to know!

Male pattern baldness is X chromosome linked.
