is there any link between the pill and consuming soy? I am eating more tofu than usual and my body feels so weird. Dont want to get too graphic here, but cant find any info on the web.

Talk to your doctor if you're worried. I eat a lot of soy and take the pill and have had no ill effects.

I would talk to your doc also if you are concerned. The pill can mess with your body, especially when you first start it.

I just started BC and have been eating a lot more than usual in general, and I've noticed I only eat the things I really really like. So maybe you like tofu a lot? I personally don't see it as a problem unless you're feeling really sick. How do you feel weird? If it's women's health-related, make a thread in the Women's Health forum and we can discuss that aspect, if you want!

It seems that the jury is still out. I found some good articles last summer both from my doc and through lots of searching at the library. Some studies say yeah, the phytoestrogens cause a problem. Then another says, nope it's fine. Still other point to a difference between soy in the raw, tofu processed different ways, and highly processed soy such as TVP or soy protein isolate. It's enough to make you :wall:.

When I talked with my OB/GYN about it, she said that basically you have to listen to your own body and make decisions starting from there. For me, that meant limiting soy intake, particularly SPI. However, each woman's body chemistry is a bit different.

When you say you are eating more soy than before...what quantities do you mean?

i really want to reflect what IamJen wrote--because those are my feelings on it too.

I don't take the pill (i don't like to mess with my hormones with chemicals if i don't have to--and as birth control i use a combination of barrier methods and fertility awareness method) and i also rarely consume soy products. it's possible to be vegetarian and not consume soy.

good luck with the information. Also, there's a lot of soy-related research at westonaprice.org--though they're not exactly a veg-friendly org.

I eat soy products and use BC pills and have had no problems. The forms I most often consume soy are: tofu, soy milk, soygurt, soy ice cream  and soy sauce.
