Adding a disclaimer: (and thank goodness my son doesn't read here) this blog was drawn to my attention by him. He's a history major prone to conspiracy theories.

But it's worthy of this forum because it is such food for thought, at least it was for me. It's on the long side, but worth reading, whether you agree with the points or not.

I've seen this site. I think the guy that operates it is a good writer and seems very knowledgable.

The oil crash is a Two Sides of the Coin thing, because it seems as though all the oil could be sucked from the ground and we've not really prepared for that. On the other hand, the oil industry wants us to keep thinking the Days of Oil are never ending, since they make so much $$ off it.

Seems really stupid for them not to put their efforts into building new reusable enrgy resouces. They'd make a lot of money off that, too, but I guess they don't realize it.

Careful on giving this cat too much praise. He links credible sources for some of his facts, although at times he misrepresents or exaggerates what was really said, but for his more scary/outrageous claims, the sources are, well, a little sketchy. Linking to other peak oil/conspiracy sites to back up peak oil/conspiracy theories doesn't cut it. Unnamed sources and "super secret" documents that only these folk have somehow gotten ahold of don't fly with me either.

Yes, I see your point Tame.

Like Coney, I think he is a good writer and brings some valid answers to issues. I'd like to get myself more information on the oil crisis.

I think he is right on about the Middle East and the oil wars.

But what you said about backing up the conspiracy theory with another similar source is true: it does water down his case.

If you want to come over and argue with my son, go ahead: he don't listen to Mom. :sealed:

That is one of the areas he loses me, and honestly, the "every war for oil" bit wears a little then with me. Is oil a factor? Obviously. The only and overriding factor? I don't believe so, and his sources for that argument were, again, either conspiracy driven or exaggerated.

I haven't seen any really good arguments to refute the "doom and gloom" oil crash scenarios. I was trying for a long time to get someone to give me some solid info on why it won't be a complete disaster, but all I tended to get was baseless optimism, whereas the doomers were much more able to come up with tons of charts, graphs, and statistics to support their theory (not saying you can't lie with statistics, you sure can, just saying the doomers are much better prepared to back up their position).

If you want that info read the Skeptical Enivromentmentalism. It has tons of information and is very anlytical.
