theres no way to win! :dizzy: well soya would be the best option :up: ... as cattle ranches take up a quarter of the earths surface... soya fields however, don't. well i doubt it anyway other wise half the world would be taken over by cattle ranches and soya

yeah but why soya?.... why not uncheeze cake or something else to feed cattle?

I'm sure cattle would appreciate a nice uncheeze cake mix in their mixture, less the scrapee of course.

Hi starx grazer;

I don't know the exact figure, but something like 16 times more soy is needed to feed cattle then if human beings ate soy directly.

People using soy for human food is not a problem. People using soy for cattle feed is.

I read in DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET years ago that it would take 16 pounds of plant protein to produce 1 lb of protein from beef. Feed isn't the same thing as protein and I wonder if Lappe just mixed up her language. That and given the long time ago that book was written makes me cautius about quoting that.

I'm reading Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman right now, and his book says 16lbs. of feed for 1lb. of meat. 16lbs. of feed is grain/soy...and add on top of that the rendered animals and blood that the cows are fed.
