Eww eww eww. My skin was crawling upon reading the words "The opthalmologist there took samples by scraping on the outermost layer of the cornea with a metal prod." The words metal and cornea do *not* belong in the same sentence. ((shudder))

Contact lens wearers do have to be careful. I got a nasty scratch from sleeping too much in mine.

Glad to hear that you're (mostly) okay, and that's good about the depression lifting. "I was once was blind, but now I see", eh? :)

Lots of warm compresses and several days wearing my glasses  I was lucky in that it wasn't too serious and healed within a week or so, but it hurt like hell. :( The eye doc said that one of his pet peeves was that the contact lens companies keep telling people it's okay to wear lenses for extended periods of time, and people end up with all sorts of problems.

I'm so sorry to hear about your eye, that would really really suck, your story makes me want to go clean my contacts, lol. One of my friends has had to get both his corneas replaced and its not as bad as you would think. It takes 6 months to heal, but since you can still see out of your other eye you should still be pretty much functional. He is the biggest baby ever (he had to get his mom to put his contacts in for him until he was 22) and he lived through it so if you do have to get your cornea replaced you'll have no problems.

Oh man that is aweful!!! Makes me feel better I don't wear contacts anymore. I never could get those things clean. I rub them with solution and they just never came out clean. Haven't worn them in 5 years though. I did once fall asleep with them on (just like a 3 hour nap) and I swear when I woke up they were really really foggy. Couldn't wear them the next day because they were so foggy. I do NOT know how people do it.

I shall go harass my contact wearing friends now to practice good contact hygeine.

Oh... I'm so sorry to hear about this whole thing. At least it'll be quite an extraordinary experience if you get a transplant. And meanwhile, an eye patch will look kind a cool, too.

Err, I guess that wasn't really helpful

Hope the opht... um, doctors are able to fix you up. God bedring!

Sorry to hear about your eye.

My contact habits are not very good and the last time I was at the eye doc (a couple years ago), he yelled at me about wearing my contacts too long. I also use tap water to rinse them. Maybe its time for another visit. :-/ Eek!
