It's finally spring here in Nova Scotia, and if I'm planning on wearing something other than jeans this summer, I really have to do something about my upper legs. I'm clueless when it comes to fitness terms, so I'll explain this the best was I can. The back of my upper legs are "dimpled", as my mom put it, and I was wondering if there was any excercises at home I could do, and if maybe bikeriding would help that. Er, I hate bikeriding alone, but if I knew it was doing my problem area some good, I'd make an effort to get out there, lol.

Thank you.

Dimples as in cellulite?? I'd use some body scrub on them regularly, to break it down and get the circulation going. To work out my thighs i do floor exercises (leg lifts), lying on my back, and on each side. Keep your feet flat (heel pulled down) when you're doing them. My calves tone up when i do this too.

No, not as in cellulite. Basically, I have legs like my mother, lol. Dimpled as in not smooth. Thanks for the tips =)

If you want to tone the muscles in that area, I'd suggest squats and lunges.

For the back of the upper leg (hamstring) lunges, sprints, or a hamstring machine are some of the less esoteric exercises you can do.

I'm not sure if building muscle will correct your problem, however, as it seems to be skin/fat related.

I think remilard is right. Toning the area will help a little, but you should do cardio, which will help burn off body fat. Don't go crazy though :) I don't know of anyone that is completely happy with their upper legs.

i'm happy with my upper legs.

a combination of cardio and gaining muscle will help. muscle gains will help burn calories (and fat) in general, cardio helps us loose fat (get leaner), so it should do the trick.

it's likely that the fat is the subcutaneous (sp?) fat--the fat right beneath the skin. this may be where you naturally hold it. so, it may be the last to go.

but yes, biking should help.

it could be hereditary? i've known some pretty fit, in shape, thin individuals who just have cellulite and/or dimples around their thighs/butt region no matter what.

however if it is just related to being out of shape, toning *and* losing fat tends to help that go away. lots of cardio will work and some strength training to tone up.

I'm pretty happy with my upper legs, even though they have a few little dimples. That said I walk a lot (probably 5mi a day on average) and I do strength training 2-3 times a week. So theres not much more I can do.

That said, walking is great exercise to both tone up legs and slim them down at the same time and it doesnt do your cardiovascular system any harm either. A good brisk walk for 40 mins 5X a week is all you really need to see some results.
