Robin Birds

Has anybody seen any yet, that live up in the nothern states? There was over a dozen outside my house this morning, and it's snowing out! I never seen a robin come back north this early. Will they be all right out in the cold weather? I don't know what I could do for them. I threw out some bread, but that's probably covered with snow by now. I'd like to get a cheap bird feeder and put it out in our tree.

If there is snow, I clean a patch on the lawn or terrace and spread out a handful of sunflower seeds.

I've seen them for about a week now. They are making a nest on my front porch. Cute little things. I hope they stay warm somehow.

In summer, robins eat worms, grubs, and other insects. In winter, those that remain up north switch to berries, and sometimes suet from birdfeeders. Their diet includes the fruit of hawthorn, buckthorn, mountain ash, holly, wild grapes, cedar, crabapple, sumac, and multiflora rose.
It is also a good idea to offer water, even in winter if you can keep it from freezing. Water is usually harder to find than feed.
