what do u do when your parents try to shove meat down your throat??? my dad is STILL obsessing over protein...

point out alternate sources of protein.
beans, legumes, soy, meat substitutes, etc.
do your research and then educate your parents.

read up on how bad animal proteins are compared to how good the other sources of protien are. and look up the long term effects of animal protein. its some bad stuff. just find as much information as you can and show it to him.stay strong hun! don't let them tell you what to eat.

LMAO Nirvana. Talk to them about plant protein and if you eat diary then you're probably getting enough protein. Ask your parents to buy you meatless meat and show them how much protein are in them and maybe they'll get off your back. I don't know what else to say. My parents were very supportive. Good luck!

i have peanut butter every day ( i am so burnt out i hate it) and they still try to force me to eat meat...they say the proteins r different or something i dunno...I DON WANNA EAT A DEAD ANIMAL!!!! but i'll try y'alls advice anyone have a good website?

You'd need a lot of peanut butter a day to get all your protein. Whole wheat pasta (7g protein), lentil soup (8g protein), whole wheat bread (3g protein), and meatless ham sandwiches with mustard (16g protein) plus bread (6g protein), and veggie burgers (15g protein) are my favorite to get protein.

i almost tried fake bologna (is that how u spell it) anyway i almost tried it once but i smelled it first and it started to make me gag...im choking just thinking of the smell...gghah...what does meatless ham taste like? does it actually taste like ham?

i figured bologna is so proccessed anyway i thought i wouldnt be able to tell the difference betwen fake and the real thing....i was wrong

heh. i hate bologna, and i always have. i finally had some tofu yesterday and it was awesome... my mom's surprisingly supportive of my being a vegan. that sucks for you.

I've read this in other places too, so the best thing to do is vary your protein sources, like what the article recommends, to get all the amino acids you need.

my mom does the *sigh* "i at least you would at least eat FISH.. they don't feel anythign anyways" or (on the phone to reletives) "what are we having to eat at this thing.. the girl doesn't eat meat anymore, *tisk and long sigh* i can understand not eating beef, mabey pork too... fish and chickens too.. *sigh*"
i just.. move it to the side of my plate.. or.. leave the table.. and make myself a veggie burger.. and.. slowly she is gettign used to the idea! but.. like everyone says on here do your research, show them that youc an easily get everything you need and still stay healthy!!!!! it helps, even if it doesn't make them see things your way!!! :nigel:

now my dad is considering making me eat meat again, just cuz i told him i wouldnt eat any chicken at Popeyes....he said i'm making life harder for him and mom...and he does that evil look, like i deserved to miss supper today.

Try to vary the peanut butter with walnut butter, cashew butter etc., just to mix up the tast. If it's PB+J, then try it with different jellys to, don't just get the grape, but try some peach or whatever else they have.
Ya, you can find that at the health food store.
Oh, and you want to mix up as much as posable, because different foods have different nutrients, pb may be high in protien, but it's also high in fat, and lacks important nutrients.

It took my mom THREE years to understand that being vegetarian meant not having any meat whatsoever. Including the teeny tiny bits of bacon tossed with the brussel sprouts or the egg-dish with "miniscule" bits of ham in it.
I guess the only thing you really can do is to refuse (though I guess ,sometimes, that can be pretty stressful, especially when they make you feel guilty for doing so:\ as in: 'you're only doing this to hurt us, aren't you? Do you even care about what we think etc. etc.).
And like most people on here already told you: 'educate' them about the various protein (and other things when they ask) sources you can find.
I bet it's just a matter of them getting used to all this.
Someone once told me that one of the biggest fears of parents, concerning their children, is that their children aren't getting enough nutritious meals and stuff. So, that might be the case with your parents...
I'm not sure but if they're REALLY worried about you, it might help to visit a dietician who can explain your parents that you will be getting enough protein etc. etc.
Sometimes it works better when a 'professional' explains them things when it comes to your diet..if that makes any sense..

I was reading the last issue of "Vegetarian Times" today, and one of the articals was asking a docter what some of the biggest mistakes that veg*ns make. One reply was: Getting into a rut You've heard it before: You need to eat a variety of foods to get all of the nutrients you need. If you find yourself eating the same meals again and again because they're easy- no matter how healthful the meals are- you might not get all of the vitamins and minerals. Explore the aisles of your gorocery store, and once a week, try a grain or vegetable you don't normally eat. Start small: Try using Wiss chard or Kale in place of your leafy green, or experiment with grains such as barely when you would typically make rice.
Another section listed the Recommended Dietary Allowences (RDA):
Vitamin a- 700 IU/900
Vetamin D- 200 IU/200
Niacin- 14 MG/16
Riboflavin- 1.1 mg/1.3
Vitamin C- 75 mg/90
Folate- 400 mcg/400
Calcium- 1,000 mg/1,000
Magnesium- 320 mg/420
Iron- 18 mg/8
Selenium- 55 mcg/55
Potassium- the National Library of Medicine suggests 2,000 mg daily
Lutein & Lycopene- There is no RDA for these yet. But because of their multiple health benefits, try to eat foods high in them.
(This is for woman/men aged 19-50)
