So, I went to the mall today. ::gasp!::

And, I've never been in this store before. www.forever21.com ...but it's kickin. Lots of cute stuff in the $20 price range. And decent quality, you know? It's not Rave or Rainbow.

So in case I'm not just out of the loop and everyone's been shopping this place forever... I thought I'd share with my chicas.

Wow, I must be getting old. I can remember as a kid reading about Frank Woolworth (of the Woolworths chain of stores ) creating the "5 and dime" where everything in the store was a nickel, a dime, and had decent quality.

Then came the dollar stores with the same idea.

Now, the "20 dollar" store with same idea.

Wow.

I don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but I've heard HORRIBLE things about why those clothes are so inexpensive (child labor, sweat shops, etc). I guess being frugal has its consequences...

I do love Forever 21! I buy stuff at their online store all the time! I love how cheap the jewelry is!

I'm glad to see they have larger size options on the website. When I've been into the actual store, nothing fit me! I'm only a 12-14. :-/

I'm a 4/5 and nothing ever fits me there. I'm too curvy for their clothing.
I know it's hard to know who uses sweat shop labor anymore.....but all of those asian stores with cheap clothing, purchase sweat shop made clothing....that's why you can buy shirts for 5.99 and dresses for under 20.00.

I checked a couple of the blue jean sizes, and they only went as far as a 13. Oh well. :(

Yar, ok. I'm the tiniest thing ever. And even I was like, "yo I can't squeeze into this shirt!"

Hm... They probably do use sweatshop labor... Grrmble.

Hmm I heard that Forever 21 was being boycotted by PETA... but that was around last year and I haven't really heard if they stopped. They were being boycotted because they refused to honor their promise to not use bunny fur on some of their coats (as hood lining or whatever). I don't know, but I know that the store does have really cute things and I have purchased from there before! I just heard it from SOMEWHERE.... heh

Sweatshop Watch

[Update, March 2004: Agreement Reached with Forever 21 - Forever 21, Inc., the Garment Worker Center, Sweatshop Watch, and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, on behalf of several Los Angeles garment workers represented by it, have reached an agreement to resolve all litigation between them. In addition, the parties have agreed to take steps to promote greater worker protection in the local garment industry. The parties are pleased to announce the resolution of this matter as a positive and symbolic step forward in demonstrating respect and appreciation for garment workers. Under the parties' agreement, the national boycott of Forever 21 and related protests at the Company's retail stores, initiated by the Garment Worker Center in 2001, have ended. The parties share a belief that garment workers should labor in lawful conditions and should be treated fairly and with dignity. Forever 21, the Garment Worker Center and Sweatshop Watch all remain committed to ensuring that the clothing Forever 21 sells in its stores is made under lawful conditions.]

Forever 21 Drops Fur for Good!
In November 2004, PETA2 asked you to take action against Forever 21 by writing to demand that the store stop selling clothing made of fur. The response from activists was overwhelming, and Forever 21 contacted us shortly after we called for a boycott of the chain to start negotiation talks. Following the day of action on Fur-Free Friday, we received a letter signed by Forever 21 Senior Vice President Lawrence H. Meyer stating that the company had removed all fur from its stores and will never sell it again.

Forever 21’s commitment not to contribute in the future to cruelty to animals used and abused in the fur industry is the latest victory for animals in the fashion world. With this decision, Forever 21 joins retailers such as Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, and countless others that refuse to sell fur. Compassionate consumers who might otherwise decide not to patronize Forever 21 can rest assured that fur will never again be sold in its stores. We encourage you to let all your family and friends know about this exciting news and to write and call Forever 21 today to thank the company for taking a stand against cruelty to animals:

I'm glad to see they changed their labor practices. Now I can shop from them. I totally need new clothes. :(

Yeah I used to shop there often. Their clearance items would be extremely cheap. I usually shop at Ross now since it's even cheaper there. But I do really like a lot of Forever 21's styles etc. I want to go there now lol.

Wow. Forever 21 is considered cheap? I guess I'm the one who's cheap.
I found a really nice skirt of theirs at the thrift shop for $3.00 or so, though.

For me it's not considered cheap, although compared to many other similar stores it is. And like i said above I usually go for their clearance stuff which really is cheap (like $4 for new dress or blouse or something)
