View Full Version : What do you think of this dress?

Hey everybody! :)
My boyfriend is a senior in HS this year, and while I have passed on to college, I will be attending HIS prom this year. I don't want to buy a big foofy, sequinny prom dress...I want it to be something I can wear again, for obvious reasons. Anyway, I found this dress online, and its affordably priced, comes in my size, and I think its very, very pretty. I want to know your opinion regarding two aspects of it.
Do you think the dress is appropriate for a prom?
Do you think the dress will look alright on my body? I am short (5'3) and full figured (170lbs.)...I don't have the most defined waist, or much in the hip department. So I am somewhat concerned the dress will not lay right.
What do you all think? If you don't like the dress, do you have any dress suggestions?

(sorry thats so long, I don't know how to make it smaller)

Honestly, I don't like it. I don't like the uneven bottom... And the cut really *is* suited for Extremely Tall People.
Should I help you shop for another?
That is one sexy dress.
If you have lovely cleavage, wear it! If you have an acneic chest or are self conscious, you might want to choose another style. Wear a push-up bra; F of Hollywood makes deep plunging ones that would work. This style of dress goes best on an hourglass figure (even a fuller hourglass ;) ) due to the cut.
Where do you carry most of your weight? If you are evenly proportioned, you will look great, size 4 or size 22!

How about this? http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product.asp?styleid=2852343&category=2376776~2378685~2378693~2374394&PrevStyleID=2849631&NextStyleID=2841212 I'm just really partial to these sorts of irredescent, poofy skirts. And, they're flattering to a shorter figure.

I like the dress, but I agree it might be better suited for someone taller. Could you go to some stores and try on dresses to get a better idea of what you'll like and what you'll look best in. Also you can probably do way better than that on price, I got my prom dress for about $50 at marshalls and its one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen. You've still got some time to shop around before prom, and really thats half the fun.

I like it, but I don't know if it would suit you. I agree with charityajo that it seems kind of tallpersonesque. I don't know what you look like, though, so it's kind of hard to say. It is certainly a pretty dress.

I think the dress charity linked would make make Linz look short.
It's important when wearing the 1st option of dress to have the breasts (or padded bra) to fill it out. If you can fill it out, then it will look hot. If you can't, then your lower body will be more obvious.
As a third option, a co-worker of mine is a size 18 apple and 5'0. She wore a white pant suit with a corset top underneath. She looked neither short nor fat. She looked dang hot. Something to think about.

I personally think it's beautiful, and the waistline is probably good for someone with less of a defined waist, if you have the boobage to fill out the top half.
I agree with Foxy, you should be okay with showing off that cleavage, or else find something a little different.
I wonder if that dress comes in my size... now you've got me thinking I need to put on some extra weight, because I never fill out a dress. Snot fair. :(

I think it's really pretty, and I think it would best suit someone tall with an hourglass figure, or someone with a long torso. It does have a nice defining waist, though.
Something like this (http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2853075&boutique=dresses_n_occasion&category=2376776~2374327~2374331~6001777~6001756&NextStyleID=2856070&PrevStyleID=2859436) might be nice if your boobies are on the smaller side--cowl necks make big ones look weird--and it adds some nice definition around the waist...and black would make you stand out in a crowd of sequin-and-chiffon wearers :)

Remember that Marilynn Monroe wore those dresses and she was my weight and a bit shorter then me. And she is one of the most jerked off to women on the planet.
Just remember that Linz :D
I like the dress, but I've never seen you so I can't picture if it would be flattering or not. I like the flowy-ness and the bustline. It would definately look good on a curvy figure. Sorry, I don't like option 2 (sweater and skirt?). Wheres the skin?! :worried:

I agree. That dress is great for smaller breasts. I know this, as I love those styles of dresses but eeeeesh they look weird on me.

I like that dress, too. I might be able to actually wear that one. I have no boobies at tall.

Boobies are C+ D...but yes, I am short.

Ok, you guys stink. :p Hehe. I love the sleek sweater and skirt... I am forever wearing tight black sweaters like that.

I can't wear the cowl necks either, FreshTart, it's like my boobs are trying to serve up some fabric on a platter, or something.

OK, hmm. Wellllll...how about something like this (http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2859439&boutique=dresses_n_occasion&category=2376776~2374327~2374331~6001837&NextStyleID=2856178&PrevStyleID=2856094) which would reign in the boobies, do a nice sweep across the waist, and give you some leg to show, too?
Same sort of deal with this (http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2859389&boutique=dresses_n_occasion&category=2376776~2374327~2374331~6001837&NextStyleID=2857168&PrevStyleID=2859436) one...

OK, I will stop shopping vicariously through you. :shy:

I also like this one. Not sure about the color, but I guess thats cause I can only do earth tones.

Me too Jinga, fuchsia on my olive skin would be a travesty, but I figured that if Rainbow has the kind of skin tone where she's looking at the purple of the first dress, fuchsia would be OK.

In the first picture, I am the second from the left in the back row, red dress.
In the second picture, I am the one without the bandana.
In the third picture, I am in red in the back row, first person on left.
These pics aren't the greatest, but they are all I have, I don't often let people photograph my body.
I like you in the red dress!
Strapless works well for you; you have shapely arms and great cleavage!

I, personally, can definitely see you in the one you originally posted. You could definitely pull that off!
And you look beautiful in the red dress in the picture, too! You make me want to go to prom again.
i was just gonna say that by how you described your body and by the picture it looks like strapless is your thing, but Foxy (of course :) ) has already mentioned that because she's too good !
http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2856466&boutique=dresses_n_occasion&category=2376776~2374327~2374331~6001765~6001768&NextStyleID=2856476&PrevStyleID=2861533 that's a dress i like that i think would look pretty good on you, but it's kind of pricey
but here is what i would do - david's bridal sells separates, and you can pick the style of the top and skirt that fits you and the color too :) i used to work there and that top and bottom thing really works for many people. plus if you have a pretty cool top you can wear it not only with the skirt but with like dressy pants or something
here is an example:
http://www.davidsprom.com/dresses.jsp?p=14&g=0 edit: i'm talking about he last picture on there - the green dress, black model with curly hair
Your body size/shape and your hight and weight are nearly identical to mine, and I wouldn't wear the first dress you posted. I would look pregnant. I definitely like the ones that Vicky just posted but the first one would not fit me (only goes up to a juniors 13/14).
Now I wanna do some online dress shopping :p I'll look around a little bit and report back later!
I've had my eye on this dress for a long time http://www.newport-news.com/shop/Product.asp?gpcatID=2&pacatID=1649&subcatID=1686&catid=1689&superstyleID=173976&productindex=26&firstpagetypeid=&pageindex=0
I love the price!
I've got to get to bed, but I will look around more later. :D
I think the purple dress is beautiful. I would at least give it a shot, if you don't like how it fits, you can always return it. :)
