View Full Version : My quads are HUGE :\

Okay so I think my body is weird. Maybe it's because I used to be A LOT heavier...and certain parts just never shrunk...or they just weren't supposed to be dainty or some crap. Piff. Eeneeway...
I used to weigh almost 150 or 160 (I forget), when I was in 8th grade. The summer before my frosh year in high school I lost like 20 pounds...the weight has decreased more; it's mainly stayed off. Until about two or three months ago it was creeping back up into the 120's I'd imagine...but I became vegan and I exercise lots so I'm back down to where I like to be.
Um but yeah. I was trying on some running pants...alright *tights* tonight and I noticed that my quads are like ginormous. They stuck OUT...freakishly so, it appeared to me. And while I have okay definition in my calves, they're not small by any means. I just have bigger legs, even though I'm 5'4", weight somewhere around 112 (maybe spot-on), and my wrists are itty-bitty. What's up with this? I mean I don't think I look disproportionate aside from natural asymmetry but...
MY QUADS LOOK HUGE!!! Anyone else considered "small-framed" but have biggish legs? Gah.
:nigel: No cheers for that.

Hmmm...would you be a runner doing long distances, speed or hill work? My quads grew to stupendous proportions while I trained for my first marathon, which incorporated all three of the above. They're wonderfully defined and have no more fat on them than any female's, but they've got tons of muscle bulk from running. And I get a double dose because my family are muscular people. We think about exercise and our muscles grow (sucks for someone who always wanted to be a cute little tiny girl rather than Brigitte Nielsen, but hey, I kick ass while running and actually I probably could just literally kick ass... :junk: ). Anywho...

LOL. That's fun. Yeah, I do all of the above, depending on the day...I enjoy trail-running, but I only do it on weekends when I DO do it, and I'm not very good at it...but I try nonetheless. And I do run quite a bit, speed or distance it just sort of depends. Gah. Whatever. I guess I just see these stickish triathletes and they're so slim, bla bla bla...maybe their thighs are big and I just didn't notice... :stinkeye:

I'm exactly the same. I'm actually about your height and around your weight as well, and my quads are really big. They shrunk down a bit while I was underweight, but I was never able to have little stick legs like my arms.
Mine are from my ballet days, and I've just come to accept them. They're mostly muscle, and I'm still able to fit in a juniors' size 1-3, but they just look really bulky. When I was dancing lots, they looked sort of square. I was always unhappy with their shape, but it's the way I'm built.
As for comparing yourself to other runners, it's pretty pointless. Depending a person's build, muscle will look different on different bodies. That's just the way it is.

One of my teachers liked to call this the 'dinosaur' physique. Huge legs and tiny little arms :) I have this too, but it's not because of muscle. :( Someday all that fat will come off.

My quads are pretty large too. This started when I started running marathons.
I can only fit in certain style jeans/pants. Those jeans that are kind of slim cut around the thigh and then flair out at the bottom don't fit me at all. They are really, really tight on the legs but the waist is huge so its not like I can get a bigger size.
I need to look for plain styles or I wear guy jeans.
I know you've been doing a lot more running lately so if this is recent, I'm afriad it goes with the territory. :) There are a lot of women on the running boards I go to that complain about the same thing too.

::le sigh:: Well, I'd rather have huge quads and be healthy and fit than skinny bird legs and not so fit...no offense to anyone with bird legs :o
HeHe.
:nigel: Cheers!

My legs are super muscular and stuff from too much DDR. Regardless, I love DDR <3~. I'm still rather heavy, but I'm trying to shrink down :D.

Yas'm. But I'm in the process of making my peace with them. They hold me up, they drive me home on my bike, they are a large muscle group at the best of times and will serve me well in my later years. I wouldn't worry about it too much...quads are dead sexy.

Yes, I have huge calves, and its completely due to genetics (thanks mom!). I literally have what some people have so kindly referred to as "man-calves"; I am also a runner and have a mostly lean physique (last time I checked, my body fat % was 17%, which is good enough for me!), but my calves would put any man's to shame. I never wear short skirts and can't wear boots because my calves won't fit into most of them...It's a shame because the rest of my body I am pretty happy with, but I can't reduce the size of these things no matter how hard I try. It's funny, because I have friends who are stick thin (but "skinny fat" if you know what I mean) and say that they love my body...I guess because I can easily develop muscle. Sometimes I love how I am and other times I envy the stick thin girls.

as a stick thin girl with bird legs i say enjoy those muscles
i think muscular legs are really sexy and all the more reason to wear short skirts
as for me i never wear short skirts and i rarely wear shorts out of the house unless it's really friggin hot out cause while i like the shape of my calves, my thighs are just too too skinny.
thank god capris are still in style

I can't do capris. :( They'd make me look huge, and I am fairly small, overall. I've got little bird wrists that look like they would snap, absolutely no chest, and some of my t shirts are from the kid's department (where else would I find a Powerpuff Girls T-shirt, I ask ya? :p ). Yet my lower body is a medium.

Not only are my legs big, but so are my ankles. My friend has the same problem, she calls them "cankles" - ankles the thickness of calves. :p

hehehe... cankles. sorry it's a funny word :o
i don't even know how one would go about slimming the ankles. it's an odd body part to try to excercise :/
me, i have bony ankles so i tend to wear runners with capris. a fashion no-no i'm sure but i can't wear sandals to work anyways so that's my excuse lol
