I'm looking for an all-purpose messenger-type bag. It can be hemp or recycled rubber, etc.

I just want a good, solid, neat looking bag to carry my money, keys, my medium-sized digital camera, and other things of the sort but I'm having a hard time finding just what I want.

I also thought that I would like one with a smooth outer cover as I would like to buy some buttons/pins with messages to put on my bag and show my support of various things.

Do any of you have bags like that or know of really good places to get some? I've checked some of the more well-known sites and my closest one so far is this http://www.veganunlimited.com/10072.html but I really haven't made up my mind for certain yet.

www.timbuk2.com/

Found this site and I like the bags. I even went through and "built my own bag". They just seem a little pricey for poor, financially-challenged me. Does anyone know about this place or have you heard anything about it?

Timbuk2 stuff is fashionable and very good quality but I don't know that they have a great selection of hemp or recycled materials, if thats your thing.

They'll last forever though, so in some cases buying a durable product made from virgin materials is better than buying a recycled product you will need to replace several times.

I have a Yakpak that I love; it's very sturdy, my laptop fits in it perfectly, and wasn't all that expensive. Mine is very similar to this one (http://www.yakpak.com/catalog/partdetail.aspx?PartNo=1156), but they have a multitude of styles. I don't know if Yakpak would meet your needs in terms of environmental concerns, but they're quality bags.

All the messanger bags I got were from Target, Payless, and Hot topic/Torrid. The ones from Payless are the ones I've used the most. They're still okay and it's been 5-6 years. You can see a pic of my plain payless bag that I covered in pins in the photo album. Also, cheaper departments stores usually have great cruelty-free options.

I have a bag similar to this one --

If that link doesn't work just search for hemp at the site and look for the hemp purse. My bag is made by the same company and I love it. Those say purse though, so I'm assuming my bag is larger than those are.

So, my messenger bag from timbuk2 came today. I'm in love. It's so well made and so roomy. Not quite as padded as I thought it would be but that's only because I carry my digital camera with me everywhere. I just found a padded-type thing to put the camera in and then put it in the bag. It has so many pockets and even after I put all my regular carry around stuff in, I added a few magazines and some "animal rights" flyers and things and I STILL have a bunch of room. This thing is great.

I'll post pictures tomorrow.
