Holy moses! They carry Silk light at Meijer now! (not that I reallly like supporting conglomorates, but its that or wal-mart down here!)

Is this low-cal or something? What's different about the ingredients? although I don't think they'll have those in bulk anytime soon (at least at the Sam's club where my mom buys Silk) but who knows. Sounds interesting :lick:

I don't know about there being differences in ingredients (though there might be). I do know that I prefer the light Silk because it is less thick and I like the texture better.

It has half the fat and calories per serving, I believe. It does taste as good as the regualr line. I hope they come out with Silk Enhanced Light.

Half the fat and 7/12 of the calories (70 v 120 per serving). I'm assuming its mostly just watered down. I got some and I can't tell a difference in cereal, I haven't had any to drink straight yet.

Of course, if I'm just using it in cereal I should just get something cheaper and water it down myself, heh.

I can't remember the difference off the top of my head, but its posted in another one of these threads around VB. I'll look it up again :p

It looks like the difference is that the light contains soy flour and the regular contains whole soybeans.

so just soy beans and soy flour ? ....
i wouldn't mind trying the light version, soy milk is like twice as "strong" as regular milk .... i dunno if that makes any sence ?
recipes ask to add water to soy milk instead of using regular milk

The recipe issue could be due to the sweetness of soy milk. Unless you are baking sweets, I'd suggest buying unsweetened soy milk for cooking purposes

oh it feels great to be stupid ....

i might as well use the normal amount, i add sugar to many things i cook ....

I've been searching desperately up here in Canada (Vancouver) for Silk Light, and so far I can't find it. Maybe I'm not checking the right places :-) I go through ALOT of Silk generally, so the light would be a good idea for me. Now if only Light Chocolate Silk would come out....ahhhhhh bliss.....

No chocolate yet. They do offer vanilla light. Mmmm ... chocolate

I saw Light Chocolate at my local Harris Teeter, I'm pretty sure.

I'm really pleased with Silk Light. I used to use Westsoy Light, but Silk Light tastes better and has less calories.

I made my vegan chocolate chip cookies for The_Gazumper today, and used Silk Light, and they didn't come out exactly the same. They were chewier and slightly harder than usual. Silk Light is definitely thinner than regular Silk, which I always used for baking in the past. Doesn't matter, though - I still make the best vegan chocolate chip cookies ever, by far, though. :D

EDIT:

Sorry, now that I think about it, that wasn't Silk Light that came in chocolate, it was Soy Slender, probably the most disgusting soymilk ever. :spew:

It's like traditional condensed, powdered milk, only soy. I think it tastes all right. Been using it with cookies and not just cereal. Though I decided yesterday to kill the cookie habit. I'm tired of carrying around this extra skinny tire around my waist.

 Thanks, Jinga!

I wonder what the nutritional difference is (if any) between soy flour and whole soybeans?
I've never been a fan of thick milk, so the Light was right up my alley.
(blah, the term 'thick milk' is about enough to make me hurl)

I love silk light! I can't wait until they come out with chocolate light.. Or maybe I can. That stuff is way too addictive.

I decided to revive this thread about Silk Light as opposed to starting a new one.

I've been curious about Silk Light, because I'm a Silk addict. I often have three half gallons in the fridge at any period of time, plain, chocolate, and vanilla.

I consume nearly a half gallon of Silk a day. I know that is really overboard, but I love the stuff I'm like a crack addict.

But I feel it's contributing to my weight gain, which is not so good. I so badly want to try the light version, but Silk is sooooo expensive, I'd be really angry if I hated it.

Is it really just watery? If so then I don't think I'd like it, I can dilute my own soy milk at home.

Silk Light is like the soymilk version of skim milk. If you prefer thicker, richer milk you may not like the light version. I had been a skim milk drinker as a teen, so I love the Silk Light. You could try buying one container of light and one container of regular and mixing half and half as a compromise. Once you get used to the 50/50 mix, you will probably be just fine with the light version.

Yep. Agreed. Like skim milk. I always buy the light, but I'm not too picky on brand name. The only time I don't buy light is if I specifically need unsweetened. I can only find that in regular fat, plain. I know you like to drink it straight, but I use the light in cooking and baking all the time too, works just fine :) So, that being said, if you buy the light and don't like it, bake, or use it to make smoothies or something.

I don't notice the difference, especially in the chocolate. Light chocolate soy milk is my one true love. :smitten:
