 I saw this at another board I frequent  :

Dear President Bush:

Congratulations on your victory over all us non-evangelicals.

Actually, we're a bit ticked off here in California, so we're leaving.

California will now be its own country. And we're taking all the Blue States with us. In case you are not aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, and all of the Northeast.

We spoke to God, and she agrees that this split will be beneficial to almost everybody, and especially to us in the new country of California. In fact, God is so excited about it, she's going to shift the whole country at 4:30 PM EST this Friday. Therefore, please let everyone know they need to be back in their states by then.

So you get Texas and all the former slave states. We get the Governator, stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get all the technological innovation in Alabama.

We get about two-thirds of the tax revenue, and you get to make the red
States pay their fair share.

Since our divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms to support, and we know how much you like that.

Did I mention we produce about 70% of the nation's veggies? But heck, the only greens the Bible-thumpers eat are the pickles on their Big Macs. Oh yeah, another thing, don't plan on serving California wine at your state dinners. From now on it's imported French wine for you.
Ouch, bet that hurts!

Just so we're clear, the country of California will be pro-choice and anti-war. Speaking of war, we're going to want all Blue States' citizens back from Iraq. If you need people to fight, just ask your evangelicals. They have tons of kids they're willing to send to their deaths for absolutely no purpose. And they don't care if you don't show picture of their kids' caskets coming home.

Anyway, we wish you all the best in the next four years and we hope, really hope, you find those missing weapons of mass destruction.

Seriously. Soon.

With the Blue States in hand, the Democrats have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, over 90% of our pineapple and lettuce, 92% of all fresh fruit production, 93% of the artichoke production, 95% of America's export quality wines, 90% of all cheese production, 90% of the high tech industry, most of the US low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Amherst, Stanford, Berkeley, CalTech and MIT. We can live simply but well.

The Red States, on the other hand, now have to cope with 88% of all
obese Americans (and their projected health care cost spike), 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of all tornadoes, 90% of all hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, 100% of all Televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

A high price to pay for controlling the presidency. Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually eaten by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% believe that evolution is just a theory, 53% that Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11 and - most hard to grasp - 61% believe that you are a person of moral conviction.

Sincerely,

California et. al

I swear, it would be so cool if this could actually happen.

The myth is that the "red" and "blue" states are purely or evenly largely those colors. Many of the red states are more purple, some with entirely blue counties, such as here in Texas, which you would think would be 100% red, but it isn't.

Yeah, I realize that. However, it still would be really cool to live amongst the wisest of Americans while those who lack good judgement as far as choosing a president can live amongst one another. Screw diversity when it comes to the way they think.

So you want to be elitist, like Bush?

No. However, I think it would be great to live in a country devoid of Bush supporters.

On a serious note, after this past election, I felt like the nation was SO polarized in their views that we really would be better off if we split into 2 seperate nations. I'm sure it would be a relief to democrats to have a democratic president who didn't feel the need to take middle ground on so many issues, just to try to get right-wing votes. I would say the same for republicans, but I think GW has pretty much stayed true to his right-wing beliefs.

Well, as Ludi already stated, we're pretty mixed, no matter what color your state showed on some political map. Here in Houston, it was pretty much half and half; you would think it would be all red, being an oil town, but no such luck for the bibble-thumpers.

Here's a quote from an email I got recently that is so telling about why we ended up so polarized:

"The Democrats' mistake was in thinking that a disastrous war, national
bankruptcy, erosion of civil liberties, corporate takeover of government,
environmental destruction, squandering our economic and moral leadership in
the world, and systematic administration lying would be of concern to the
electorate.

The Republicans correctly saw that the chief concern of the electorate was
to keep gay couples from having an abortion."

The Republicans also "went rural" and why you have little islands of red/blue in seas of blue/red. Splitting the country, however much you may be joking (I stopped reading the "letter" since I could counter some of the things the other side would get with what we would get, like AMD, Rice University, The Texas Medical Center and hurricanes you can tell when they are coming versus earthquakes that are just "there" all of a sudden and so on) would only make things worse. What would stop Bush from "invading" your new "country" after you seceded and taking back or just destroying whatever they felt like doing? Has anything stopped Bush from doing just that with other "weak" countries? If a secession like that ever actually happened, the military would be pulled out long before it happened so they could "invade" after the fact and so much for the so-called great left-wing nation.

By the way, I am very liberal and though I live in a republican state (born and raised here) I find I can do more good by fighting them on their own turf than "running away". And I'm really getting tired of the Texas-bashing. Dumbya is no more a Texan than JFK was a jelly-doughnut ("Ich bin ein Berliner.")

Australia has plenty of Bush supporters (we're even governed by them). Although they may just be scared of US bully-boy tactics and/or arse-kissers. So I guess FR won't be coming here.

There actually was a California Republic for a very short time.

I was just trying to be helpful.

If you really think that the world boils down to some blue vs red geographical boundries then you might as well head out with FR. The attitudes being displayed by so-called progressives in this thread are why we have eight years of Bush and not four.

FR, move to Canada! We're ruining our US relations all the time :) In fact, Bush won't even return our phone calls anymore

If you can get hooked up with a good company, ya I think that can get your foot in the door a lot easier.

That, or you can work illegally, keep a low profile for 5 years and apply for citizenship based on humanitarian grounds. :-/

Let's not devide the states by colors. There are too many reds in the blue states and too many blues in the red states to make the devision that simple. I like the idea of California being independent. They have always needed to be independent.

North East Ohio would be happy to join California. You could then add another fresh water lake, educational and research centers, great theater and orchestra, and two excellent hospitals to your new country. (not to brag about where I'm from or anything. :P ) Our region voted bluer than probably a lot of blue states averaged.
