For a while I had been buying Wal-Mart's generic brand of Chicken In A Bisquit crackers, because they're vegetarian (would be vegan too except they contain whey). But lately Wal Mart hasn't had them, so by chance I checked the ingredients of Kroger's generic brand CIAB cracker. Not only do they appear vegetarian, but they might be vegan as well. There are no natural or artificial flavors, no whey, no chicken broth, and the only ingredient that is occassionally of animal origin is dextrose; oh and there is sugar. I just emailed the company to see if they know whether it is certified vegan. But thought I'd post the info in case anyone has a Kroger's Store in their area and loves Chicken In A Bisquit Crackers as much as I do.

Australia had a vegetarian brand of chicken bisquits here in Aus for a while, too. They were meant to be shaped like drumsticks but looked for all the world like fish. For some bizarre reasons omni's who would happily chow down on a lamb would get all uneasy at seeing a vegetarian eat chicken flavoured biscuits that looked like fish. (For Aussie veggos reading this, the biscuits are no longer veg.)
I used to love them! I don't think they tasted like chicken at all. I could happily eat them by the packet. If these ones do turn out to be vegan, I'm gonna be importing a whole bunch, you can be sure. :D

Wow! I didn't realize these were veg. I never even picked up the box. Now I have another snack for the kids. Thanks so much!

I loved Chicken in a Biscuit crackers when I was a kid, but later decided they were way too salty. Are the Kroger brand imitators as salty? We have Krogers here, I might try them if they won't dessicate my taste buds.

Do they have MSG and hydrogenated oils like the originals?

Do they have MSG and hydrogenated oils like the originals?
Yes to both.
And to the earlier question, yes, 210mg of sodium per serving.
Definetely not the healthiest snack, but very addicting.

that's weird I saw something by a similar name at a Ralph's nearby and it had something like chicken fat in the ingredients...

Marsh has an imitation, too. They're vegan as far as I can tell. I bought a box, and they're not bad. They don't taste like chicken so much as chicken-flavored boullion.

I wonder if oyster crackers contain sea creatures?

Oyster crackers are just plain crackers. Totally veg. I had some the other night, yum!
