Does anyone know if those hypnosis video things actually work? Anyone ever tried it? My friend had them at her house from when her sister lived with her (she doesn't smoke) and she was going to throw them out, so I took them instead. I have been thinking about quiting and tried a few times, but always start again or chicken out. I think I might give it a try. In a way they seem like a bunch of bull ummm doody :) I'm guessing it's because quitting is mainly all in your head anyway, and if you believe it will work than it will....or is there more to it????
any thoughts?

Didn't do hypnosis but I did read the book by Allan Carr, 'The Easy Way to Stop Smoking' which is called motivational suggestion. I haven't smoked or had a craving since I finished reading it....3 months ago, after 15 years of smoking and many failed attempts at quitting.

Good luck.

My mother, who had been smoking since she was a teenager, finally gave it up when she was 60 years old by using hypnotherapy. I was amazed! She is completely turned off by even the smell of smoke now, and it has been six years since she had the treatments. She went to a local hypnotherapy school and got a discounted rate because she allowed them to use the technique on her in front of a whole class. :)

I had a friend who had hypnosis done for her smoking, and she said it worked for almost exactly a year, then she wanted to smoke again, but she felt if she could have it done once a year, she'd be fine. It was an actual human hypnotizing her though.

Everything I have ever heard about hypnosis has seemed to say that you have to be mentally receptive (i.e. want it to and believe it will work) for it to be effective for you. Sounds like Rabid's friend missleigh's mother had the right mindset and it worked for them.
I personally say  to anything that works to free someone from nicotene addiction.
