The thread on Women in office in the US made me think of this. It's a question that comes up sometimes when I'm talking politics, and I wondered what you all thought.

Who will come first as President of the United States? A black Male, or a Female (of any color, but presumably white)? I'm really interested in hearing everyone's slant on this.

I think we had a thread about this a year or so ago. I think we'll have a black president first.

That's my hunch too - a black male president first. But it's just a feeling - completely unsubstantiated by any rational thought ...

Female, presumably white? Gotcha...

So I guess being both female and of color is reality overload, huh?

Could be either, but it's probably not going to happen soon...

Well, it's a pity Colin Powell is as old as he is. I mean, he is highly electable.

I think that you're assuming motivations in the question that don't exist.

black male. Thinking... a Colin Powell-ish type of person vs. Condi or Barbara Boxer or Pelosi... yeah, definitely black male. Especially if he has a strong military record.

He's not that old. But I do think his time has passed; during his tenure in the Bush administration, he lost a lot of his moral authority and the respect he had among many who would have voted for him. It's sad.

For you probably, but your not allowed to vote there. Me neither, unfortunatly:)

Black male, because imo sexism is more deeply rooted than racism.

How about a black woman? or is that too much to ask for?

I think it will be hilary clinton.

The 'woman' option can be black, white or everything else, I think:)

I wonder what they will do with the 'first lady' if there ever is a female president of the USA

I think a female president will be first. I actually think Hillary will win in '08 if she does in fact run.

Then Bill Clinton would be the first lady?
Nice:)

Too many people hate Hillary. I think Bill could win, if he were eligible to run, but even people who like Bill hate Hillary.

BTW, I would definitely vote for Hillary, and I hope I'm proved wrong.

Sorry?

I declined to vote. The first to assume the presidency will be the most electable. I am of the opinion that a black man or woman of any ethnicity could be that person.

That said, the majority of non-white-male candidates over the years have been black men.

I think it will be hilary clinton.
I think she will run against C. Rice in 2008. In that scenario the president would have to be a woman.

I don't think it's going to happen, personally. I sure wish a better candidate would come along, regardless, of race, creed, color, or gender.

I didn't vote because I think they have the same change of being elected president depending on who the person is.
